Would you swap an original 5512 for a daytona cermaic?
Trade the old for new?

Probably not, but define "original."

No. One is a dive watch which I use the other is not (albeit I wish I was a racing driver).

No way! A solid vintage trumps a modern iteration all day every day.

Wait a year and you will get some cash too if you really want the DC over a icon.

Not a chance. I wouldn't in a million years. (I once flipped a complete and original 5513 about 15 years ago...probably the dumbest watch decision I've made...ever. And that's saying something, cause I made a few)

Nooooo. If you really want the Daytona 500, I'd buy it outright. Don't trade your 5512 for it.

Hell no. They don't make the 5512 anymore, whereas they've just begun making the 116500 and will be for several years.

I would, unless the Sub had sentimental value too.

if you feel that you are over the 5512 and would rather a modern watch without issues and something you can wear without concern, then... yes.

so far the polling looks to be about 12-1 NO...that said, the 5512 is a vintage model you might someday regret having let go. it was the first Submariner to incorporate crown guards* & was only manufactured for about 15 years (as compared to the highly sought-after 5513 which was around for close to 30). from a collector's standpoint, it will only increase in value.
the 5512 is also the only true 'Steve McQueen' Rolex as it was the same model that he actually wore. * the 5512 has slightly thinner crown guards which sets it apart from all the others. |

Heh, I've got a meters first 5513 that I'd do that deal for in a heartbeat but it's mostly 'cause my 14060M gets so much wrist time.

Hold on to it and figure out a different way to fund the Daytona C.

Ok, I'll buck the trend and say I'd consider the trade. Maybe if there was special sentimental attachment or if the vintage piece was in pristine condition, I'd reconsider.
On a side note, can Rolex replace the pearl for you or would that require a new bezel? |
