Someone did a number on these lugs

This is a pretty sad sight. Only Leonardo with a laser welder could restore this

Something tells me that those lugs resulted when somebody got a great idea to customize his watch -- after he had just polished off an entire case of cold ones. I'm actually interested in acquiring that watch. #addedtowatchlist I can fix it up nicely. #greatdeal?

I would get little joy from finding that even for nearly nothing at the flea or a yard sale, except it does look like it has a decent dial, the movement is clean, the back is usable so, as a donor

From an auction by Jeff Hess...very sad to see, especially after reading the description by Georgia. To call this watch awesome is definitely not what I am seeing.

Wow, those drill-bit "spring bars" are just....

I also don't think I've ever seen a winding crown mangled quite to that extent, ever...

I am sure it will be frankened with a fake case, crown, and braclelet and back up on eBay in no time, lol...

That looks like it was worn by a bomb disposal expert during the Vietnam war.

It's on my watch list.

The lugs are screwed, but if those drill bits can be removed without doing further damage then a fixed bars conversion, done by interference fitting some decent SS bar then carefully trimming, would make things look a whole lot better. My biggest worry is the concave damage to the upper edge of the lugs isn't leaving much room for maneuver if the drill bits need to be machined out.

Crystal can be polished. Bezel insert looks amazing. CGs are OK. Back isn't as bad as some I've seen. Movement looks tidy and seems to be running. Crown is easy to replace, as is the tube and stem.

Worst case [pun intended] scenario, as said above, it's got some decent donor parts.

I'd wear that thing daily as is (except for the crown...would install a vintage one). I think it's awesome.

A totaled car on the freeway also draws a crowd (of eyes at least) but I wouldn't want to be the owner.

He has several threads in the watchout section about some of his other auctions. Some of his responses were quite unbelievable - but true.

A parts watch for sure. Sad, because he has been a respected expert, and years ago I bought my awesome gilt 1016 from him, as well as a super original 2940. I suspect he offers little oversight of his staff, which is criminal.

Hess bills themselves as fine auctioneers. I would never consider anything about that watch desirable. It is in give away condition. Sometimes I pass on cars because they just can't be saved or will simply cost too much vs what they will be worth.

Welp, I'm currently the highest bidder.
This will be a fun project to post on the forums.
