15202/5711

I know this horse has been beaten to death however please humor me. What are your experienced pros and cons? I really want to get the 15202 but I was wondering if the Patek is superior in craftsmanship.

I haven't own both but, have handled them both and I personally prefer 15202 over the 5711 the patek is nice and simple however, the AP is just much nicer design and the patek bracelet isn't as nice and iconic as the AP you know it's an royaloak bracelet from miles away. If I'd get a nautilus it'll rather get something with some complication 5712 or my grail the 5980 if not AP all the way!

I saw both in real, had a 5712 which is close enough to the 5711, I would choose the Patek, mostly because of the second hand, both are incredibly beautiful watches but I find the Patek to be a little more original and 70's styled, it took me a long time to love it as at first I didn't like Nautilus watches, took me 2 years to like them, but once you do I think the love stays, of course you have the better WR of the PP, some prefer the AP and others the PP, you can't go wrong with either, though if I need to give my point of view I would go 5712, you have complications for a little more

From what I've seen of both, not sure the 5711 is superior in craftsmanship

Between the 2 designs, I think the RO has aged better, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder

both are great watches. But I would first buy the Royal Oak 15202, it is a beautiful watch. The 5711 comes after it, in my own opinion. In all cases, both watches are amazing and you can't go wrong with either.

I've struggled a bit here to. The ap just seems easier to like - but I think I should want the pp more.

I think some of it is aesthetic. The ap seems slightly easier on the eye. But the internal conflict comes about because you perceive the patek to be something more special. Perhaps because of the marketing and advertising.

Sometimes I wonder if we should make decisions based on what a non w i s would say so show them two watches and ask which is the best. The non w i s always pick with their eyes and their heart they base their opinion purely on the way a watch will make them feel. In contrast however we Lament over our decisions based on a thousand different levels from the movement to the advertising to works weve reaf on a hundred different forum pages and confuse ourselves no end.

Typically I think this is why we are right to give ourselves the advice buy the watch that sings to you. I have worked through a lot of different watches over the last few years and am a self confessed flipper. I find the watches that I'm happiest with and that stay the longest are the ones that I simply loved without having to have read all the background gumph about in order to start to learn while I should appreciate it

Both are incredibly well made and the finishing is top notch on both, but the AP is easier to like the first time you see it, the Nautilus takes getting use to, I really didn't like the design for a long time, now I really love it, the best is one of each, 5712 and 15202 is the best duo, the only thing which really bothers me on the AP is the lack of second hand, I really like to see the watch living so it might bother me, but if it doesn't then it's a great watch, the proportions are perfect, I find the 15400 not so well balanced, if you ask a non wis he will clearly choose the AP, can't imagine them choosing the PP, the AP has a more classic look to it, while the PP with it's ears is a little strange at first, again the PP design is very special and needs time, but when you do you really love the watch, IMO it's the coolest design for bracelet watches, the AP being right behind it, but for others it will be the contrary, again no wrong choice, with are incredible watches though I prefer the 5712 to those 2...

Both are beautifully crafted. Choice between the two is more a taste issue - which design speaks to you more.

It's very hard between both of them I have a 5712 and a 15202 if I got the 15202 first I would eventually end up with a 5711/12 try handling both of them

I would prefer 15202, since I like 2 hands watch. Also the bracelet of AP is much nicer.

5712 SS and 15202or rose gold are my pair. Both are equally loved. The 5712 rotor design is very nice and interesting to stare at!

Usually go with the PP

A client of mine has a 5711 which looks uber cool - it turns out it's a 5711p so that explains why it looks and feels so good.

I have a 5711 and love it. Struggled to like the 15202 at that price when you can get a very similar looking 15300/15400 for much less. Yes I know the movement and case are very different but for me they are very similar.

The 5711 is very unique and super rare. So if you can get only one I would get the 5711.

I have a 15400 and 5711 and happy with what I have. Never longed for the 15202.

Exactly.

PS I battled between the 2 and got the 15202 before getting the 5711. My current favorite watch in my entire collection is my 15202OR.

To each his own but as for quality and craftsmanship they both are best in class.

I know how you feel, when I tried it on from a collector it was the only time I've been willing to offer full retail on a used piece.

Obviously both are top drawer, I think the bracelet and certainly clasp of the AP is better but I just prefer the design aesthetic of the Nautilus, so that just edges it for me.

They're equal in my mind in terms of craftmanship.

I prefer the 15202, like the design better.

Wow, I'm considering a 15202OR now, that's quite a statement!

Between the two, IMHO, its really just a matter of personal preference. As stated by the other members, fit and finish; and horological pedigree are on par. If you can't decided, then the correct TRF answer would be to get both!

Last weekend was the first time I saw the nautilus in person (also got to look at a 15202) and I wasn't particularly impressed, but can def see how it can grow on you.

The 15202 was magnificent at first glance. A little thin for my liking, but still gorgeous.

Really boils down to what you feel when each one is on your wrist.

I have tried on the 5711 and the bracelet left me underwhelmed. It is very well crafted but it just felt dainty to me. I didn't understand all the hype behind the 15202 either...until I tried one on. It was just so well proportioned and the thinness of the watch really made it special along with the rich history. I walked out with it that day and I can't begin to tell you how contrary that is to how I buy things haha.

I've had it over a year now and love it every time I put it on. The lack of a seconds hand does not bother me in the slightest, it makes for a superbly clean, well executed dial.

The 5711 lacks the je ne sais quoi that the 15202 has, in my opinion.

15202 all the way

pictures say it better than words, ok I know one pic is the old jumbo but it shows better than the others I found, IMO AP wins on the bracelet but PP on the rest, but it's just tastes

Both are extremely well crafted and look incredible. It will come down to personal preference after seeing them both in person. I prefer the 15202 to the 5711 simply because it bothers me a little that the 5711's date window doesn't match the dial like the 15202.

The 15202 is the original, the 5711 a facsimile. The 5711 hands don't match the indices and the 15202 has the movement which is held in higher regard.

But the 5711 has a better crown and crown guard design justifying the "sport" label, although the opposite ear design polarises opinion.

AP are happy to personalise the 15202 movement for the customer and I have yet to read that of PP.

The bracelet on the latest 15202 is superior to previous versions.
