Service
i just had my rolex serviced. new stem, crystal, gaskets and etc.
i noticed on back of watch, the rolex "green label". dealer says i never took off label. i have owned this watch since 1987. i told him this label was never on the back, or i would have noticed it.how can i check if the dealer substituted a different case? does the case have a serial #? service was done at a very reputable watch dealer, who sells and services top of the line watches. how do i feel confortable, knowling i got "my" watch back. all other appearances look ok? Yes, the serial number is engraved between the lugs at 6 o'clock position and you need to take the bracelet off to see this.

How much did you pay? I ask this because you would have been charged for a new case.
They don't give those out for free, right?

Welcome. Can you give us a little more information? It sounds to like the watch was sent in with remnance of a green sticker on the back and now it's gone??
It might well be the watchmaker that did the service removed what was left of it from the caseback. The caseback is a seperate piece from the mid-case itself (the part that has the serial number/reference number between the lugs. Perhaps he felt it best to take it off and barring some instruction from you did just that. The inside caseback should have the reference number inscribed on it, but putting ser. nos. went out a while ago. Was this an acryllic reference? |

Hmmm... Ineresting... I would not expect that..
All cases do have a serial numer between the lugs as stated. The only way you would know if it was your case is to know what your serial number was before he started. I think it is unusual for a watchmaker to keep the hologram on the case-back since this will hinder their ability to properly clean and refinish it. On the case, on the opposite side from the serial number, is the model number engraved in the case. This should be the same number as stamped inside the case-back. It is possible that the repairman mixed up the caseback with another.... If the caseback stamp and the model number do not match I might try to get to the bottom of the situation..

Maybe they were servicing many Rolex's and you got someone else's "caseback" not "case" If you really suspect something fishy bring it back to the AD to make sure the serial number on the "case" and movement matches (does the mvmt have the watches serial number on it?, maybe someone can answer). Even if you got someone else's "caseback" as long as it fits and the grooves/teeth look good I wouldn't worry about it.
