How come I am never happy with what I have?
Is it just that the "newness" wears off? As soon as I get used to what I'm wearing on my wrist, it somehow becomes less desirable and I immediately start yearning for a Rolex that looks "unfamilar" on my wrist. Am I "overusing quotes?"
Anyway, here has been my progression of watches. 1986- Tag Heur: Purchased a Tag Heur blue face stainless divers watch when I was 17. They have been discontinued now, but it's still my favorite model ever from Tag Heur. It looked a lot like a sub, just a tad bit smaller. wore it for 13 years. Now my dad wears it. 1999- As a divorce present to myself, bought a brand new SS Sub date for $3100. After about 6 months, the watch started looking "ordinary" to me. But I still liked it so I kept it. 2001- Omega Seamaster Quartz: The dotcom bubble had burst. I had to liquidate and reluctantly sold the watch to my wealthy friend for $2800. I significantly downgraded and went with a used Omega Seamaster quartz for $700. A great watch for the money, IMO. 2003- Rolex GMT 1675: I was missing having a Rolex. I got $500 trade-in value for my seamaster plus I gave another $900 and got a pristine 1675 Pepsi. 2004: - SS vintage Date Just with Thunderbird bezel- For some reason I fell in love with this Frankenwatch and traded my 1675 straight up! (Idiot!) The watch never kept good time and all and I was able to return it luckily for what I had in it, but my 1675 was gone! 2004: SS Rolex GMT Master (circa 1987): Traded in the DJ and picked up a Pepsi GMT Master quickset with saffire crystal. I loved this watch, but after about a year I got "used" to it. 2005: Upgraded to a 1997 GMT Master II Pepsi. Almost the same watch. Not reaally sure why I did this. I loved the watch, but let a woman lead me to insanity so I flipped the watch for an engagement ring that i never gave to a crazy woman and wore an automatic Omega Seamaster that I picked up from a friend for about 6 months. 2006: Expy II: Picked up an Polar Explorer II. I love this watch on other people's wrists, but for some reason, it just didn't smile at me on my wrist. But I wore it for over a year. 2007: PAM 24: Sold the Expy II and picked up a PAM 24. I loved the watch, but once again after 6 months, it started looking ordinary to me. I finally concluded that I was a Rolex guy. It seems like once you've worn a Rolex, you are never happy with wearing anything else (at least it's that way with me). 2008: GMT IIc / GMT 1675: Sold the engagement ring for substantially less than I paid for it. Picked up a GMT IIc. This is my favorite watch to date. I have had it for around 6 months and the newness has yet to wear off. I can see myself keeping this watch for a while. Life is good right now, and hopefully I won't have to flip it and can just add to my collection from this point forward. Also picked up my oroginal passion, a long lost GMT 1675 for steal from a buddy who just didn't care about watches. Today: Now I find myself wating to add a Sub LV, a Milgauss GV, another Polar Expy II, and maybe even a white-faced Daytona! What's wrong with me???!!! Why can't I just be content?

It's called Rolexitis. There's no known cure. Your only hope is to minimize the chronic symptoms. Buy more!

Similar Sickness, Different Symptoms!!
I can't stop staring at my watch, I love the damn thing!
Got my SS Sub Date just about a month ago and I can’t stop looking it at. The incredible craftsmanship and engineering that went into making this amazing little machine just fascinates me. I sit in meetings and, as I watch the second hand sweep, marvel at how many intricate mechanical functions take place, each second for 24 hours everyday, to keep this self powered machine running so accurately and it just blows my mind. The idea that enclosed within that little stainless steel water and dust proof vault are over 200 moving parts – some so small they can barely be seen by the naked eye – that have been manufactured and assembled to work together, perpetually, instills an admiration for that work, and pride of ownership, which is hard to describe in words. After wearing this watch I can not imagine anything else ever being on my wrist. |

You are currently under the influence of gratitude. It is now time, as of immediately, that you stop reading this site. Overuse of this site can create... unfulfillable desires...

That is exactly why I like to have more than one watch! When I grow tired of the one I am wearing I swap it out for another. I may go weeks wearing the same watch, or I may wear it for a half day, but having the choice is nice! I think you have the right idea picking up a couple of other pieces, Good luck!

If you are a collector type, and you enjoy hunting down the pieces and and get pleasure from your collection, keep at it.
If just want a watch to tell time as do I, and you want one that suits your personality, one, two or three at most should suffice for all occasions. If you are looking for happiness in a watch... And, redshirt, what does Bubba say about sheep?

Sound normal to me. If all of us just had one watch it would be real boring around here

Dude .... you need therapy. Keep the watches and wear what you feel like wearing
for any given period of time; be it a day or a month. Then, when you're "eyes hurt" put on a different one.
I know ... Easier said than done.
