Is having a white gold sub and yellow gold sub too much sub?
Hey everyone, I am in a bit of a jam. I have decided to buy a full yellow gold Rolex and decided only on either the 116618ln which is the yellow gold submariner with black face or the 116718ln which is the yellow gold GMT with black face. I am torn. Love them both. I have a 116619 which is the white gold sub which I adore. Do you guys think buying another submariner in yellow gold black face is to redundant? I love the glide lock of the sub. Then I love the GMT in yellow gold as it has the bezel which looks amazing but am worried about the fitment. Is there much of a difference in the two size wise? I am hoping to be given some convincing discussion here on trf. Please share your very important opinions and points. If any of you have any side by side pics to help that would also be amazing.
Thanks guys! |

I'd go blue sub in gold in a heart beat. Not black.
That having been said, if your going black, the GMT would be hard to resist. Lucky dog you are. |

I don't think you could ever have too many Subs if that's what you really wanted. That being said since you already have the WG Sub, I think it would be pretty cool to be able to switch it up with the YG GMT. I was watching Ocean's 13 over the weekend and it was Brad Pitt's go to piece in the movie. Forgot how cool the YG GMT actually is.
Fit wise, they're very similar with the GMT's smaller case back offering a slightly slimmer fit. Has a great feel in heavy precious metal and isn't quite as top heavy on your wrist. |

They are definitely different enough to co-exist in a collection very nicely. Would certainly be a beautiful pair!

Nothing in this hobby makes any sense, so buy what you like!
But if I were in your situation, I would go 718 black GMT. |

GMT between the two. I think the YG Sub LN is a gray piece and I halve one, but you already have a sub, so go with the GMT. Also try the GMT with green dial.

Get the BLUE sub in YG if you got the dough! I wish I could have gotten that watch, but I could only afford the next best thing the TT blue. Maybe one day I will try a trade up, but it would be hard for me to let my first rolex go. Especially since I promised it to my son and my daughter even loves that watch. So I may just have to get a 2nd rolex all gold but love the blue dial. I would like a Daytona though! |

Can't go wrong with either a gold sub or gmt.
If it was me I go for the sub. Can never have to many sub. |

There is no wrong choice but I'd diversify functions, having a Sub and a GMT in PM is a great combo. But if you want two subs I'd say the black face is my first choice, diversify the dial/bezel as two blue Subs would probably feel redundant to me.

Either gmt with black face (and that subtle bit of green on the 24h hand) or blue face on the sub are my two choices

Love the black dial gold Sub and in general, I prefer the Sub over the GMT. I don't agree with needing a balanced collection. You can only wear one watch at a time, so it should what you love. Glidelock will give the perfect fit, as well.

This is very subjective on my part but for me I've always seen the Sub as the near quintessential tool watch; go anywhere; do anything; beat it to hell & back & have it come back for more. Having a Sub being made of soft & easily scratched & stretched gold seems to me to be against its very raison d'être.
