Fluted fo shizzle.
The fluted bezel DJ is just quintessential Rolex. It was also my first, and I miss it. |

100% go fluted. I went smooth initially and wound up flipping for a fluted. Trust me you will have fluted bezel envy at some point if you go smooth...

As a daily watch I would go smooth to reduce attention and just have a classic functional watch. As a dress watch or evening watch I would go fluted.

I had the smooth and couldn't get my mind off the fluted bezel so I gave in.

Wow, I'm the only guy so far to vote for the smooth bezel. I always root for the underdog!

I nearly got the same watch you are looking at, but I think the shade of blue on the baton is a little more pleasing to the eye than the darker shade the Roman model goes with, but both are beauties for sure. But I wear my fluted baton DJII with casual every so often and I think it wears fine. Like I said, I tried the smooth bezel and it was not long at all after I got it that I started longing for the fluted. I'm just trying to save you the heartache... |

I would definitely recommend the smooth bezel considering your age and lifestyle. The fluted bezel is stunning but very dressy and quite a bit pricier. Have you also given any consideration to the blue stick dial? I've found it's a lot easier to read than the Roman dial.

Fluted, as we all know, is a style of shaping the surface with different flat areas creating more angles so it can refract more light from more points of view. It makes the object shinier.. more like a piece o jewerly.. more dressy.
You have to decide based on your personal style if you want that extra bling. I went with the smooth. |

The Smooth with Blue Roman is my favorite combo hands down. I owned one and was foolish and sold it. I may have one back some day if they make it in 40mm (which would be juuuust right IMHO)

I prefer smooth for the DJ. Looks more sleek and modern. Fluted is classic, but too flashy for me.

If I may ask, in regards to the DJ, does a Fluted Bezel make it look bigger than a Smooth one?
Thanks. |

Fluted for me. But if I were 27, I would go for the smooth for the sportier look.

FLUTED.
A Roman dial is one of the most Dressy dials Rolex makes. It requires the most Dressy bezel Rolex makes. Sport dials = Smooth bezel + Oyster bracelet Dress dials = Fluted bezel + Jubilee bracelet Any disruption of these 6 variables from the 2 intended design paths is a Rolex no-no, a fashion faux-pas, trying to make the watch into something it isn't. If based on your age you are a Sporty guy and want a Sporty Datejust, you need a different dial that compliments a smooth bezel and Oyster bracelet. If you want a fancy Dress watch, you need the fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet. Rolex says so. |

Also... I am 29 and feel that it works flawlessly in both dressy and casual situations. In my opinion, the smooth bezel castrates the DJII to a degree.
