Opinions on the sky dweller
What are your opinions on the watch? Doesn't seem to get much love on here. I've never seen one in person, but love how it looks on pictures...

I love it, especially the white gold on black leather strap, if money was no object I would have one right now.

That's my favourite combo to! That's what I wonder, money is an object to many, and for that sort of money there are many other great options available.

It's a great watch sometimes I feel like it's trying to be too many things. The size and bracelet would seem to point toward a sporty model. The function and styling more like a DD.

I never cared for it, until I saw a few in the window of the Rolex Boutique here in NYC. Then I loved it. I think it presents better live than it does in photos or video.

I like and would wear a sky-dweller but there are other models I prefer over it, the dial just doesnt do a lot for me in all honesty.
It's all personal preference ofc

Probably because there is not a Stainless Steel option. For a watch that comes in only solid gold, there is plenty of Rolex competition out there. Really, 12 different models all in gold but no SS models. I personally don't care for the model
The bigger question is why no SS option, I know it would help this line, unless they want this style to be ultra exclusive?

I agree. Although I have never warmed to the safari. Black themes on the other hand

The black themes is great, but something about that cream/ivory dial (even though I've never wanted a white dial) screams to me. ...One day, maybe, hopefully |

I love the SD, especially the WG version on a bracelet. It feels great on. The weight is impressive and I like the size. If there was a SS version I would buy it.
The downside for me is that it's fairly dressy. I don't feel like it would be an every day watch for me. |

To my point, do you notice how many people have responded to this thread and own the white gold. Makes me wonder how many more people would love the look, but at the SS price point.

Tried on on some occasions and it is something special! The most complicated Rolex movement ever, really heavy and big. It is a statement watch, for sure. I like it a lot, specially the rose gold and white gold versions and only on bracelet. I dont think the strap matches it well

I feel like it should have a day of the week function instead of a useless function like month of the year...I could understand having both but I hate it when my annual calenders don't feel "complete". Additionally I feel like the "day" complication is intentionally left out as not to compete with the day-date model. Its like a Porsche Cayman in this regard. Many say the Cayman could be faster than the 911 but it was intentionally slowed down to reflect the price point. Although the price analogy does not work here the idea is still relevant. Just my 2 cents.

L.O.V.E the sky-dweller.
Bought mine exactly 2 years ago, Aug 18, 2014, and the passion is exactly the same, or may be even more!! It feels like an unbelievably well made machine on the wrist!! I think it is a keeper for me for sure. Re absence of day indicator => day indicator is not essential on annual calendars or not on even perpetual calendars. There are many annual/perp cal watches without day indicator. It is just a design choice - sometimes it is omitted to keep the dial simple, or to make room for other complications. Month indicator is not useless, instead it is ABSOLUTELY essential for annual calendars -- otherwise it won't be possible to set the date correctly. A few pics ... |

I was very impressed with them when I tried them on but I favour more AP for this kind of presence-ful striking PM watch.

Not that I'd ever buy one unless they even came out in SS, I do like them though. A lot going on, on the dial, a WIS dream.

I think i would like it more if it had the day and was one a President bracelet. I just think the oyster doesn't do it justice and i really think an annual calendar should have the day. Especially if its a travel watch.

Best looking Rolex dress watch IMO.....All 3 variants of gold are superb, the size is perfect, and the movement is just plain awesome.
