Does my wife need to break links on her DJ?

Hey guys,

My wife's mother gave her a DJ 18k Presidential recently as a gift. We took it to get sized, but we realized when we got to the watchmaker that all of the links have already been removed. Basically, there is no way to make it smaller. The watchmaker said that we can break some links off, but that its irreversible.

My wife has a really skinny wrist, and for reference, it's a 26mm DJ she has.

Would/does Rolex have a solution to this, or would we have to break links off to adjust it? And if we broke the links, would the old removable links still fit back on?

Thanks for your input! Help!!!

Taking out "permanent" links is, and has always been, the method used to fit Rolex watches to smaller wrists..

The links simply pull apart - it isn't that big a deal.

The links that are broken..are broken and can never be put back on. The removeable links can still be used on it, if you have them. Removing permanent links is permanent though yes.

Yes sometimes permanent links have to be removed, the old links should still fit.

I've heard removing the links is the only way to do it. Good luck to you. I understand

I remove a single permanent link off every older oyster bracelet. Once they're off, they are off for good. Bracelets are wear items - break the links and wear it.

Yeah it's no fun cutting off an 18K link... But then again it's no fun not being able to wear an 18K watch.

It's one link and you get the gold for scrap if you sang to go that way.

I had to cut off a link for my wife and had no problems, but the gold link was worthless except for scrap value.

That is the only solution for a smaller fit (that is common on people with small wrists). As you are dealing with PM, ask your watchmen to give you the broken 18k link as it can be sold for $$

Yes, this may be the only way to get the clasp properly centered on her wrist. We had to have two permanent links from the Jubilee bracelet removed to fit a Lady Datejust on my wife's wrist which is only 5.5 inches.

I had 3 permanent links removed for my wife on her 36mm DJ 116234. I sent the bracelet to Michael Young and had him do it. No cutting involved.

Another option is to get a wife with bigger wrists.

If you want to keep the bracelet as it is, buy a leather strap. It could be nice too.

Put your wife on a " Big Mac " diet, the bracelet will soon fit her wrist.

My dear mum bought me a watch were the bracelet was a tight fit. I had to order an extra link. When I mentioned this later she said " Couldn't you lose some weight ! ".

Is it just me, or is this blasphemy? Cannot fathom busting up an all gold bracelet.. But what is the lady to do? Wowser

I always think resale though.. Once OP is pot committed here, with the exception of MY in HK, can those links ever be put back on?

The real blasphemy is Rolex not including enough removable links.
