233 straps
Who do you guys recommend for straps? I had a couple made from the Strap Smith a few years back but I find they are thicker than I like to wear. I have larger wrist and although the XL OEM straps fit they seem just a bit lopsided and are hard to come by. I've seen straps from Dangerous9straps and they look like good work but after a few emails trying to place an order he just stopped writing. I would rather someone point me in the right direction than to keep trying at a few hundred a pop. Thanks

I'm suprised to hear your feedback about John. He really is an artist and worth the time investment, so, there must have been a miscommunication?
Anyway, if gator, stick with OEM. If you want thin leather, non-OEM and quality, look at Dirk or Ted Su (both of which won't break the bank). Simona is top notch as well, but the straps can be on the thick side if you aren't careful. You can also try contacting ABP for a great custom strap (pricey though). |

I personally love bosphorus straps on etsy. They make amazing vintage style thick leather straps if that is your thing. Here is a picture of the vachetta strap.
The prices are really good for what you get. Around $120 for a custom length strap with sewn in gpf buckle. Total time is around 3 weeks to make and ship from Turkey Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |

I'm very surprised to read this about John at Dangerous9 too. I haven't physically experienced his work yet but I've just finalised an order with him two days ago. His responses are very meticulous and detailed, which is hardly surprising from a German, and his advice is solid. Sure, sometimes he can take two or three days to respond to an email but when he's hand building straps and his turn around time is about 16 weeks, he's clearly very busy. Cut him a bit of slack and ping him another email. From the photographs I've seen of his work, I'm can't wait for mine to arrive - only 15 weeks and five days to go

You real can't beat Dirk on the Paneristi vendor forum. Beautiful and great build quality. 233 looks great on just about any strap.

I agree with you he was meticulous in his responses. I was in fact going to order two straps from him, one for the 233 and one for a Tag I seldom wear as I really don't like that OEM strap on that watch. He sent me a picture of what he thought I should go with on the Tag and I agreed. he than asked me to pick out a skin for the 233 to make sure it was available. The leather I picked for the Tag was the France Croco Alligator all totaled it was to come to 488 euro, I agreed that was fair, picked out four or five Ostrich leg skins for the 233 as he requested, sent him my measurements as requested then never heard another word from him. This was July 24th and I have emailed him three times since to see what could have went wrong. I would say I have "cut him some slack" and pinging him again after three attempts seems redundant. Although I too like what I see in his work, he clearly seems to have enough, which is a good place to be. I'm just not accustomed to chasing someone even if they are German and do good work. |

A lot of Europe shuts down in August for family vacations. Maybe he did the same? Or something else came up? I would try following up in early September one last time if you still feel up to it. Also, I believe John is an American living in Germany for quite some time. Could be wrong, though. |

I heard from him last week and would suggest OP have one more shot at contacting him.
