Panerai...are they still a big deal?

I haven't read or heard much about Panerai lately. Is the Panerai craze over?

Plenty of new models coming out that the Panerisiti seem not to be overly impressed with. However, I'm no expert on the brand and would defer to someone like Cru, Mik and/or Nick.

I'm new to the brand and have two references, which I love.

What I will say is that the service I received at the Panerai Boutique in Singapore was better than I've experienced at any Rolex AD and boutique. It was mind blowing and I'm going to buy another watch from them whether I want one or not

I appreciate the clean design of their dials. They are quite unique. There used to be quite a buzz about them but seems to have quieted down lately.

I think they are great looking. Tried one on a few months back and it was too large for my wrist.

That saved me some money!

I think PAM has its own following. Due to its size, it does not appeal to all, which is understandable.

The bandwagon craze may have moved on to the next thing, but the fans of the overall purity of Panerai's design, overall coolness and history remain.

Is everything perfect to everyone? No, far from it, and I take the critiques of certain OP moves to mean the passion is still there.

But, who really cares about all that? If you love it, buy it and wear it! :-)

For me they are still stong in what they bring and how they treat their customers. TOP notch service, cool design, cool new models. I LOVE PANERAI.

I used to be a big fan of Panerai but have moved all of my watches that I owned out of my collection. No issues with quality or looks but for me the brand has just stopped being what it was when I first got into them. A fair value with many cool designs and a price point that was good. I think they have the worst marketing plan of all time. Issuing watches that you can not buy, reissuing the same watch later with slight modifications that undercuts the value of the originals. I personally don't know anyone who is in deep collecting Panerai any mone. Also, the flip or resale on the average Panerai is not good.

My Pam 233 is still my favorite watch, and I find myself wearing it for practically every occasion... On rubber for snorkeling and running around during the summer, then right onto a nice brown croc to match up with ferragamo monk straps for a suited up business dinner. I adore it and will never trade this watch, which to me is the quintessential Pam. It gets far more comments and admiration than any Rolex or breitling I've ever worn.

I am new to Panerai too. Never been a fan of this brand but recently got attracted by its look. Bought a new 351 and now itching for a 233 or 422 or anything heavily domed

I personally would not approach this topic from a fad perspective. I love the brand, own 1 Panerai and that is the pam00233 which I love dearly and gets a lot of wrist time. I think they are beautiful I pieces with history. I guess Panera is not in a easy place where they have to keep innovating to not be left behind but also to not deviate away from their identity. I for one really support what Panerai is doing in the movement arena, coming up with interesting movements like the Monopulsante 8 day GMT for example based on their P2002. I think they deserve a lot more credit than they deserve. On the other hand they do unexplicable things like introduce the 1005 wich is for all intents and purposes "an inferior" Panerai which I dislike.

I enjoy mine, I maybe could agree that the "hype" has faded out a little, but that is just when you find out who is really into the brand because they love it and who was just wearing one because its "cool"

Were you into Panerai because of the love for the watch or for the price-value-resale ?

I will admit I got a screaming deal on my 111 when I bought it in 2004. Do I wear it much now? I wore the heck out of it, and it shows. Now.. 12 years later.... do I still like it? Yes. But not enough for it to make it into my monthly rotation. Sad, really.

No

But if you like them, by all means, buy and enjoy the brand.

Panerai days as the niche brand and with big watches are over but they are trying really hard to broaden their customer base...

weird release strategies that I question for the last few years...

announce 617/619 then release the 375 about the same time..

announce the 662/663 then release the 637 and then kick in the 690 blue series...all within 6 months..
why..why...? all beautiful pieces but its too much of a buffet...and all 47mm which again limits their sales...

If you like them, buy them. If you want to own something so people would talk about you, then buy a Hublot. :)

I like them, and I own them. I don't really care if the collector / flipper type still care about Panerai or not. I don't think Panerai is going anywhere any time soon.

Will always love Panerai no matter what happens in the future. I seriously cannot have a bad day with my PAM 212 on my wrist.

I normally wear my watches for a week each and switch them up every Monday. Since I picked up my two PAMs on 28th July, I haven't worn a Rolex. The odd thing is, I haven't had the urge to either; I'd rather stick with my PAMs.

I'm off to Australia on a job on Monday and I'm going to be gone for two to five weeks. Because I'll be in court and not on a survey, I'll be wearing a nice watch instead of my usual G-Shock. I think I'll be wearing my 359 and taking my 689 and leaving Rolex at home.

It's funny you say that. I bought a Pam 111 about a year ago and it stays on my wrist. I have switched back to my Sub a couple times and it never lasts longer than a day. Something about the Pam just feels great on my wrist, perfect size/weight I guess. My Sub feels tiny now.
