Current black bay or wait for new in house
Hello.
I tried on a black bay black bezel today, and think I'm in love. Just don't know if I should wait, or buy now. I like the current bracelet, and dislike the rivet style of the new. I do like the power reserve, dial text, and SI spring in the new model. Anyone have pics of the new style bracelet? Is it as bad as it looks in the renderings? Please help. Joe |

If you like the one you see, why would you want to wait
The current movements are excellent and shouldn't be a major driver if you want to like the looks of what you wear.

i went for Black with ETA. like the styling of the dial more and the Tudor rose instead of the shield
Sure I would have liked more power reserve but can't have everything ;-) |

My personal preference is the BBN with ETA movement. Have one and love it. Gets more wrist tine than my SubC.

I like BBn eta but the power reserve is probably the biggest con vs. the new one. I personally like how it was a limited run. The dial details aren't a huge deal to me but I like the curving text on eta.

I think being such a short lied edition it comes down to aesthetics and whether you plan to rotate it and thus taking advantage of the power reserve.
I second the ask for pics of the new bracelet, the reviews I've seen mention that what look like rivets are functional (tops of the pins) not just decoration. Would like to see more.

Personally I like the new style bracelet as well as the shield on the dial, might be a police thing but I like the newer one better.

Original or new? Kind of like the vintage Tudors. It will be awhile, but the new ones will still be around and the old ones will be wanted.

I just went through the same process. Decided to pick up the BBN ETA. My thinking is I can get it now and if I ever want the new one down the road they will be readily available. This initial run isn't coming back. Get the current one!

I just picked up an ETA Pelagos and am hovering over a Mk1 BB Blue that the dealer has in his case. I prefer the aesthetics of the Mk1 in both models and I think there is great value to be had in them as dealers discount them to make room for the latest and greatest. I also think that over time (probably many, many years) people will reminisce about the first gens with the two line dial (Pelagos) and Tudor rose and curved text (BB). I don't necessarily think they will be sought after collectors pieces but I am confident they will age well. I think that now is the best time to buy the ETA BB and Pelagos.

You can always buy the new one at a later date. You won't always be able to buy the original one.

I like the current version better and have one on reserve. I like the bracelet, dial, rose, and text better than the newer version. The in house movement doesn't sway me in the least.

I really like the current version, but for a few hundred $$ more why not go in-house? I'm moving away from buying watches that are priced as if they have an in-house but just have plain ETA in them (looking at you, Panerai and IWC).

Both are great; perhaps the only one having potential as a collector's watch is the BBN with the old movement as the production run was very short. Otherwise it comes down to a matter of aesthetics and which one prefers. The new movement also is nice if one doesn't mint the shield and straight text layout. I made my bed when I bought the BBR. No reason for me to buy as second.

Both are great, of course, but personally I prefer the aesthetics of the current ETA model. And as has been noted already, the ETA movement has proven itself to be a quality movement.
Go get it...NOW! |

Love the BB and personally like the old model better, but the BB Dark looks good.

Aesthetics wise I'm digging the current... I like the rose and the curved text dial. This is a great watch.

I personally don't think the in house movement is worth loosing the dial and braclet of the eta version. But only you can make the decision of what's more important to you. I have the eta version and I would never sell it.

I too made the decision last week to go for the Rose dial/ETA rather than wait. But I've had a few moments of doubts since the new Tudor chronometer movement has been recognized as significant and considered for an award (pre-selected for this year's Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve). In the end I won't do anything since ETA is a fine movement as well on the basis of what users are saying.
This "limited" run series (October 2015 up to now) in the case of the black bezel was a factor for me, as is the thickness of the new case with the Tudor movement. I didn't want the watch to be thicker. If the metal bracelet had been more tapered in the new edition, this could be a really cool thing but I don't think it's the case. I prefer the cloth band anyway: buckle is beautiful and the whole thing looks good, light and comfortable. So my preference remains with the old one, but I can see the appeal of the new movement. |
