Is there a Rolex 101 somewhere?

Hello all. I am new to this forum and in looking at posts there is a lot of information that is posted I am not understanding. I am look g to buy a Rolex. Going back and forth between the sea dweller and submariner two tone. I see stuff about "z" serial number, random serial number. Etc. what does all of this mean? Can someone direct to something I can read to learn so I can avoid getting taken? Also is there any guide to like average prices for these watches? I know it has a lot to do with how old they are. Thanks for the help from a newbie!

I would say best advice is buy from an AD or a trusted seller.

Rolex 101?

Absolutely.

It's called the Rolex forum and you are already here.

Take your time. Use the search function and you will find more information than you could possibly need.

As far prices go, I usually search watch recon for specific models to get an idea as to what they are going for.

Good luck.

Chrono24 for prices, it will give you a ballpark. But buy from a TRF dealer, or an AD.

in my personal opinion - not without extreme care.
It seems to me eBay is safer with PayPal buyers protection.
I am sure others may disagree, but that is my opinion

For prices you need to search what a watch has actually sold for, not what the seller is asking. Two entirely different things. I can ask whatever I want, doesnt mean it will actually sell at that price.

Risky. Buy from a trusted seller on this forum, the Rolex forum, after reviewing the who's who section.

I checked on kijiji and met and inspected a prospective 1979 Sub with date gold n stainless, it was legit for $8000. Canadian $5600. USA but the bezel was quite stiff, so thinking to get it up to snuff a grand or so. Got a 116610 Sub for 9100. Plus tax from AD. Cost a bit more but piece of mind. I'm very happy. Had I gotten on forum earlier I may have gotten from trusted seller but will prob look for a vintage one next
