Which Loctite to Buy?
The bar on my clasp keeps falling out! I searched on Amazon and there seems to be several types and strengths. Can someone point me in the right direction? Or can you just make my life easy and tell me exactly which one to buy?
It's a solid gold sub, fyi. Thanks!

Rolex provides Loctite 221 for the link pins in their sizing kit.
Hope this helps.

I didn't see a 221? Only a 222, and 242, and a 22221

I'm not seeing anywhere the 221 is for sale. I'm thinking it might have been discontinued. Anyone use 222 without any issues?

The blue is stronger. But i saw another thread recommending clear nail polish. I think I'll try that since my wife has a copious anount laying around! Thank you gentlemen for your input!
For others that might stumble on this thread in the future, I also read that 221/222 are the way to go, since the others may be too strong and difficult to remove later on.

I tell you, Loctite doesn't do themselves any favors by changing their product numbers, and also by mismatching the color of their bottles to the color of the Loctite. :)
The one I used for the Rolex links is Loctite Purple 222MS "Low Strength", also in a red bottle. The Rolex Sizing kit appears to include the 221, which is the old number for Purple? I couldn't find it in Loctite's catalog or application guide. "Loctite® 222MS™ Threadlocker – Low Strength Recommended for low-strength threadlocking of adjustment screws, countersunk head screws, and set screws; on collars, pulleys, tool holders, and controllers. Also for low strength metals such as aluminum or brass. Mil-Spec (S-46163A) Type II, Grade M. NSF P1." |

You want to use 221/222/223 they are all low strength ones and only use those no other, use only a very very very tiny amount in the female part of the thread only.Should be widely available most DIY stores should stock it or even Ebay.

Hi Peter, I've always wondered. Why should you put the glue on the female part of the thread? What is the benefit of this compared to putting it on the male part of the thread when they both get screwed together anyway?

More even distribution of the loctite over both thread surfaces.

If you put the loctite on the male thread it will contaminate the wall of the link hole as you push the screw through.
If you apply the loctite to the inside of the female thread the screw pass cleanly through the link and lock up in the female thread.

BLUE formula applied to the threading via the tip of a toothpick works fine.

Yep, Loctite 222 if 221 is discontinued or unavailable. Both are low strength thread lockers. Tiny amount, female threads only.
