Lower magnification on my Sub
So just realized my beloved SubC date has lower magnification and it's kind of killing me. (Was comparing it to my colleague's 12 years old sub date and it was so obvious to both of us)
The idea of shipping it out to RSC causes separation anxiety plus I think I would hate Rolex if they don't fix it. Anyone out there in the same boat? How are you dealing with it? My Sub was bought new from AD May 2015. |

That stuff does not bother me. Can you still see the date fine? I assume you can. Wait until routine service to get it changed and make sure you specify on your request form. Or bite the bullet and send it in. There is only 2 options here friend. Only you can decide if you can live with it until service time.

I would get this fixed. For some things I can wait until service but this is one I can't. A RSC can get this fixed within an hour but most likely, you will have to leave it for a few weeks.

The magnification on my 116619 is smaller than what I had on my 11661LV. To me it's not worth the hassle of sending it in and not having it for an extended period of time.

Was in the same boat. Sent it in and had it fixed under warranty. That's unacceptable.

X2. Most likely RSC will correct it at no charge.

I was in the same boat with my BLNR purchased in April last year. I tried to live with it, but after about a month I had it sent back to RSC which took about a month. It was a bit of a pain to be without my newest edition so soon after buying it but I'm glad I got it sorted. You should send it in if it's effecting your enjoyment of the watch.

wow, that's way too small. That would bother the hell out of me. I got lucky escaping this fiasco when I bought mine 7/14.

I don't quite understand. If Rolex is making them this way, why do we say it is wrong and they should fix it?

I'd wait for service and address it at that time. If it really bothers you, then deal with it now.

Was it sold in this condition or did it lose its magnification somehow over time? I assume it was like that at purchase. From the rate of comments, you'd assume that many models are like this? You hear so much about how thorough Rolex is so it is kind of curious how this type of thing would be missed during inspection if it was a flaw and not something that degenerated over time.

Here's a side by side comparison. Doesn't seem that bad. That wouldn't bother me.

It's wrong. It bothers you. Ship it. Fix it. Well known problem that many will still deny or dismiss.

Because Rolex has replaced many of these in the past few years. It's been a common and widespread problem. There are plenty of threads here on the subject.

Why are you comparing it to a 12 year old Sub? I think it is obvious there would be a difference.

That's not the correct magnification. Send it in while it's still under warranty.

The RSC in Beverly Hills was able to swap out the crystal for a cyclops with the proper magnification on my 16710 in under two hours. I dropped it off, had lunch, and picked it up in an afternoon.

I had my crystal swapped out on my LVc, turned around in 48 hours. I thought mine was bad but that one is unacceptable

Get it fixed. Why have a cyclops with hardly any magnification? I remember years back before this problem occurred we would have said a Rolex with that magnification would have been a obvious counterfeit. This isn't a difficult quality control issue to identify and correct. The disturbing question is why would Rolex purposely let such an obvious quality control issue out to the general public??

I haven't seen one of these pop up in a while. Take it in and have them change it. I did it with my YM.
In your avatar you list Bay Area. If that's SF, I think there is a repair center on Post Street. By the way the NYC RSC had mine for 5 weeks. Good Luck

That's probably the worst cyclops I've ever seen on a real Rolex.... If you hadn't bought it at an AD, if be skeptical of its authenticity based on the cyclops alone. There is virtually no magnification. I would roll up to a RSC ASAP and have them swap it out, and demand it be done for free. Pretty absurd. Rolex prides in their QC but this is bullsh*t
