Not sure I understand the question but I believe Rolex recommends every 2 years but people have said that they can last much longer than that.

The Oysterquartz is a really cool watch because there isn't very many of them. I believe offrdmania is correct when saying Rolex recommends changing the battery every two years. I'd be interested in knowing what a service and battery change would cost for a oysterquartz because I heard somewhere they can be more costly than a service for a oyster perpetual

I've heard up to five years. Probably depends on the battery. Rolex promised free battery changes for life when the OQ was on the market. RSCs in some places (like Hong Kong) still do this, others do not.

Ok .. I just spent the last hour talking to someone at Ben Bridge in Seattle, and the general belief is that 2 years sounds about right. He did go on to say that the best way to determine when your watch needs a battery is when the battery dies. He also said that it is always best to have the battery changes ASAP once it dies because you don't want the dead battery to leak into the circuit board. I hope this is helpful even though I'm not able to come up with a exact amount of time to have the battery changed.

I'm curious .... How do you like your oysterquartz, and what is the general price range for a average service cost on a oysterquarts? I've often considered adding one to my DJ collection, or maybe even getting a DD version.

Why two years? Surely until the battery is flat?

I think they recommend it every 2 years to prevent something like an old battery leaking, i havea 2 tone OQ and i love it, very cool grab and go watch.

It's very easy to swap out. I'd do it annually just for insurance.

Just thinking outloud... I wonder if we will ever see another Oysterquartz, or any kind of powered (non spring wound) Rolex mechanism watch again?

Sold mine but would consider buying another. The RSC service price was about the same as my Sub, GMT, etc.

I have asked this same question in many places.
I have been told that to change the battery every two years is good insurance to prevent
any possible battery leakage problem.
Local independent watch repairman does it while you wait and tests for accurate running,
replaces the back gasket.
If waterproof testing is desired then he wants to run a full service. ( N0 COMPLAINT)

It's part mechanical and thus needs to be fully disassembled, oiled, and reassembled.

Thanks. I know little about the OQ, but they do interest me.

Loads. There's no mainspring or balance wheel, but apart from that it's mechanical, with 11 jewels. It's a hybrid, not a casio-type quartz watch, and the 5035/5055 movements were five years in the making.

My Oysterquartz need a new battery every 2 / 3 years.
So I do it about every 2 1/2 years (No EOL = End Of Live).
Movement overhaul every five years.
The anchor (YES a quartz watch with an anchor) is purely mechanical, and needs maintenance.

The Oysterquartz is a SUPER SUPER superlative chronometer officially certified 😀

Personally, I find it the most beautiful quartz movement ever made.
Also from 1 meter distance you may easy recognize it's a Rolex movement.

5035 (Datejust) 5055 (Day-Date) 105.097 Units in 26 years.
4042 each year (average).

There is a lot of mechanical parts in the OQ the drive train is from the mechanical Cal 3035 and a full service could be more than a full service on a mechanical. And when first introduced the movement was more expensive than the purely mechanical. The Oysterquartz uses a SR344 battery and its not rocket science to change it yourself.Even most high street watchmakers could do with the case back tool its only like unscrewing a jar and pressure check after. You can buy a pack of 5xSR344 batteries for around £8-£10 its not like if its some special Rolex certified battery its just a normal run of the mill battery. But trouble today once you mention Rolex the price always escalates 10 fold and its no different to change a battery in a Rolex as to changing one in say a Seiko dive watch.

Oysterquartz servicing is the same price as mechanical servicing, but only necessary every 10 years or so. Batteries will only leak if you don't have them switched out when they run out of juice, no need to have them routinely changed. 2-3 years is a good run generally.
