Why yachtmaster 2 has 2 10 minute markings

I it me or why they have 2 10 minute markings one on bezel and one on face- they can easily leave the face markings off?

I'm not even clear why it is a 10 minute countdown. I always thought it was used mainly to time the pre-start, but I believe those are five minutes. And I'd think you'd want it down to seconds for precision in timing your cross of the start line.

It's a cool watch though.
