DayDate Trade?

I have a Daydate yellow gold that's been an almost daily wearer since when I bought it new in the mid1980s it keeps near perfect time and it shows gentle wear. Derive has been with Rolex.

I asked an AD with whom I've done a lot of business over the past 20 years about a trade for a new DayDate yellow gold.

The net cost with trade and tax is about $25,000. I'm sure it's a fair price.

I've spent that much and more on a piece of jewelry for my wife, but spending it on myself gives me the willies. Money isn't the problem. The problem is my feeling about money. I grew up poor, was an aggressive saver/invested, worked hard, had some wonderful lucrative jobs, and retired very comfortably. Being retired and with long lived parents somehow makes one more conservative about luxury spending.

I think I will look at some used DayDates. I've always bought new, so this will be a learning experience.

I may just sit pat with the old DayDate, Datejust, Patek, and new GMT.

Try trading/buying from a trusted seller here... May be the best of both worlds.. Great trade in value and many have new DD 40's for right around 25k already, so back out the trade amount and you may only spend in the teens .. Shopping is fun

I assume you're talking about getting a Day-Date 40?

This doesn't sound like a good deal to me. $25k plus your old watch for the new one if I've understood correctly. I believe you can buy the DD40 new for about $25-26k without trading the old one.

This................DavidSW has what your looking for in the $26K range on his web page. He does trading with cash as appropriate. I think you would be pleasantly surprised at how much you will save going this way.

Sounds like a great deal for the seller and not you. Assuming everything is good with your old watch you should be looking for a figure between 16k-18K. The new DD 40 is a great watch. Contact several of our Trusted Sellers here, work out a fair deal, much better than the one you described, get your watch and enjoy. You said longevity runs in your family so you should have many years to enjoy your DD.

The list is $34,000. I was offered about $8000 for my watch.

After 25 years of daily wear, I don't think I could part with it. Keep your old day date, it's basically a part of you now.

Do you have any pictures of the beauty? Impressive if it only shows signs of gentle wear? My DD from 2012 that has been used as a daily for long periods of times has quite alot of scuffs and bracelet stretch. Can't imagine how it will look in 30 years

Another thought, do you have someone close who would appreciate and treasure it? How about passing it on (if $ isn't an issue), maybe you'll start a tradition within your family) btw...I am adoptable

These guys are right...dude, you can get a DD40 all day long here for about 25k ish and then either sell yours outright or flip it to knock some of the cost down. No way would I trade a DD AND pay 25k.

And by the way, you deserve it. Get the best deal you can and pull the trigger.

Trusted sellers have a DD40 for $25 or so as others mentioned. Perhaps get yours serviced and sell for 10k, so $15k difference.

Check Davidsw.com. DD40 around $25 to $26K. DO NOT PAY $34K! I value my money too, grew up poor as well so I will not pay full retail I don't care how much champagne they give me at an AD.

Wow, your Day-Date looks great! It's in much better condition than a lot of ones I've seen for sale, especially for it's age.

If you still like your DD and it has sentimental value, how about getting a different DD for $25k-ish either in white gold or rose gold or with a different dial, and keep your old one? For the same outlay as you started off considering, you can have your cake and eat it (in a different flavor) too!

Keep your old day date and get the new day date 40. Since your day date is already a classic.

The market for precious metal Rolex is very soft. I would not pay full MSRP for a DD here in the US. Keep your existing DD and wear it until you can find a much better price for a DD40.

Disregard my post OP, I didn't properly read yours (little drunk) and I thought your beautiful DD would be more beat up than that.
