Buddy was drunk ebaying

Hey TRF,
My buddy was drunk ebaying and bought the below watch (in the link) when the Broncos won this weekend.
My only concern is the dial. Do you think this is aftermarket?
I have never seen an orange face.
The case and bracelet look like like my Tudor 90120 from the same era.
Once it comes I'll have him take to an AD and authticate the movement etc.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

" 5 available"?
Really this guy has 5 identical 1960s pieces?

He does say restored and I suspect dial is part of that. No movement photo

Dial is 100% refinished. Should be a 1565 inside non hacking non quickset movement. Bracelet is almost certainly not original to the watch. Looks to be genuine but a later addition. Can't be 100% sure though as I can't see enough detail from the images provided.

Thanks I will check the movement when it comes.
The seller claims that there is a 30 day guarantee of authenticity.
Would you consider the wrong bracelet as basis to return the watch for not being authentic. This is assuming my friend doesn't like the watch once I tell him the potentially bad news.

Sidebar: as I am typing this, I started cracking up because this sounds like all of those bogus "my friend has this watch I need you to authenticate"

He negotiated for $2750.
Is that a fair price with the a repainted dial and wrong bracelet?

This is his first vintage watch. I told him to stay away from ebay (especially when wasted or bored) until he had some sperience (yes i spelled experience that way on purpose; old Richard Pryor joke).

Sounds like 1000$ too much.
For 2750 he can get mint Rolex 15210 or similiar, late 90' or early 2000s.

Well that's how we learn. I bet he'll listen to me next time.
I'll post an update when it arrives with pics.
Thanks to everyone for your speedy response.

Nothing that I'm aware of other than spending too much at the gentlemens club.

Nope, it's still too much. I wouldn't pay more than $1.3K for it.

You need to let your drunk buddy know about the eBay "adult" section. At least he might end up with something useful... for fifteen minutes.

ALL CATEGORIES > EVERYTHING ELSE > ADULT

Update: I just got off facetime with my buddy. The bracelet is a 78350 which I think is for a 5500 Air King. No problem ( he doesn't care about that detail so neither do I). There are 3 other issues that concern me.
1. The serial number on the case starts at 142,000. That seems like a strange number to start at. It also looks like there is a number scratched out before the 142,000. I couldn't tell over facetime. The model number says 1500.

2. The crown does not screw down flush like my Rolexes.

3. He says he can feel the rotor when wearing it. I suspect it feels like the wobble in my Walden international with the Valjoux 7751.
Tomorrow I will take him to my watch maker to pop the back off and go from there and post pics.
I will give another update tomorrow.

142,000 serial would be far to early for this watch, that would date it at around 1940. My guess would be it's a 1,142,000 dating the watch to around the mid 60's which would be correct. If it looks like natural bracelet wear on the serial, I wouldn't worry.

I have a 1500 on my desk now with a 1565 movement in with the original butterfly rotor on. The rotor axles on these are known to wear out causing the rotor to clunk about when worn. Mine needs replacing. I suspect the same thing with your friends watch, the axle/rotor is worn and needs replacing. They do however make a bit of noise even when freshly replaced. Depends on how bad the noise is. If it's more of a scraping noise then the rotor is rubbing on the bridges/caseback then it definitely needs replacing.

Buddy was drunk ebaying

Update: took it to the watch maker. the watch has a 1560 movement. The watchmaker told us that the movement is correct because Rolex made a mistake in the first few watches. It wobbles because it needs a new rotor axel. The date wheel is not from Rolex.
The serial number is 1,142,xxx and was rubbed due to bracelet wear. It has the wrong size crown which is why it's not screwing down correctly. The bracelet is wrong. He advised to send it back and get a refund. I hope he's learned a lesson.

Oh man. Hopefully he gets a refund on that Junk. And at that price! I'm sure the seller was ghost bidding on this one.

That's the first thing I thought: total ghost bidder. No way that would go over $1,000. There might be $600/$800 of value in the parts considering condition.
