Help me with my first Rolex!
Hello all!
I'm considering one of these two Rolex as my first one and I would really appreciate if you guys could help me telling whether or not they are original! Both are ~2700. The Datejust 1601 is from 1967, 36mm. The Date 15010 is from 1975, 34mm. What do you guys think ?? Thanks!! Mateus. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The DateJust is a non-contender for me ....
Hi Mateus,
The 1601 has had the most gruesome over-polish and the case us way beyond repair. Too expensive too even if the case was much better. If you google search " unpolished Rolex 1601" you'll see how a healthy case looks. Sorry I'm not familiar with the 15010 but some folks find 34mm too small nowadays. |

Help me with my first Rolex!
1601 has refinished dial IMHO
And bad case its overpolished Go for the 15010 as it also has a quickset movement if it's your first unless you want a specific year vintage watch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you very much for the answers, Paul and crowncollection! Indeed, the 1601 looks very overpolished..

I agree with Crown, the top text is positioned too far up the dial and it looks like a bad re-dial. The bracelet looks terrible too.
I would go with the OP date, love those engine turned bezels! The font is correct too, and trust me 34mm may seem small, but they're perfect. Good luck! |

oi,mateus!
i am looking also for a rolex datejust, and between those two,i do believe the size is a big diference, when talking 34mm vs 36mm. honestly, you would have to try out both watches,i have big wrists and prefer way more the dj,i feel that the date is too small, except on some rare ocasions. looking at the datejust,it's a non-quickest,non-hacking 60's watch, with white gold bezel and what's probably a replacement bracelet, that means the watch had a hard life already, but the biggest proof is how stretched the bracelet is,and the center links "ate away" the metal on the outer links, and also on the final link, where it finds the endlinks,i could also mention the over-polished clasp and poor atempt at 'fixing' the clasp, but those are normal signs, and they only mean the watch didn't see much,if any cleaning from the past owner(s). the dial itself is good, the hands are good, good crystal, wich was most probably a replacement, rather than a quick polish,if you compare it to the bracelet. the watch has also been case and bezel polished a couple of times, wich you can see by the thin lugs, and of course, the original spec springbars would stick out of te lug holes in this watch. the date looks like a sharp watch for it's age,and probably a quickset,BUT,IMO it's best to keep looking for a datejust in better condition. if we're talking 2700 temers,go for the datejust, and buy yourself a brand new bracelet. if you're from sp/sp,i could help you with some shopping, just hit me a message and we could go look for something! if you're not, also hit me up and i can direct you to some friends (dealers) wich can get you a good datejust,i would be glad to help a WIS. ps-don't buy that date, really, lol. |
