Please HELP! 1940s Oyster Perpetual Identification

Hi Guys, trying to figure out some things about this vintage watch, and it looks like this forum is full of experts that may be able to help?

I need to know what year/make/model of watch this is, is it even real? Seller says 1940s and I think he's right but I can't find a picture of it anywhere online:

It looks like a ref. 2940 bubbleback from the early-40s (eyeballing it without SN), with refinished dial and aftermarket crown.

Adam78, ooking at photos of model 2940s I think you're right! But I can't find any that have the same hand and dial combination. Also, the dial doesn't say "Swiss Made" on it at the bottom. Might this be because the dial is refinished? Also, the winder doesn't match up with what I see pictures of (there's no logo or lettering on the winder knob).

Is it even authentic? Were there any fakes of this era watch?

From my research so far the asking price is pretty low for a Rolex ($400) but pretty expensive for a fake. I'd like to purchase it for my wife, but not if it's a replica. What do you think? Good deal or not?

I have seen fake bubblebacks come out in the last decade.
But I agree with Adam, looks legit, with refinished dial and replaced crown.
You could post photos of the movement and inside of the case if you want to be sure it is legit.
Obviously dial and crown hurt the value, but $400 is a bargain. I would purchase it for resale myself

It's real, but with the caveats I mentioned. $400 is not much in itself, but a service could be another $400.

I would get something all original for her if I were you, without any issues.
