1680 advice please
Hi all,
Pls comment on this 1680. Looks like a service dial. Any advice is much appreciated. Pls pardon me as I have also started another thread asking about a 1675. The reason is because I am considering a purchase on either one.

Can't tell you for sure from that pic, but something is off about that dial...
Date mag is larger on the 1680s due to the added distance between the window and the top hat crystal Sent from my iPhone 7+ using Tapatalk |

It does appear to be a service dial, as well as the bezel insert.

What are the "tells" that identity it as a service dial? I don't disagree, just trying to educate myself.

Thks guys. Base on the views so far, i can surmised that the 1680 has a service dial & insert.
Now comes the headache of deciding between the 1680 & the 1675. The 1680 costs a few hundreds more than the 1675 (with supposedly period correct dial & service insert). The 1680 has been verified at RSC by the seller on its authenticity.

A watch is not only dial and bezel... (that are both service in this one)... but even caseback, bracelet, movement etc...for me it's impossible to give an opinion on a vintage watch without pics of serial (could be a service case for example or rewritten), reference between lugs, inside caseback, movement etc....

Crown guards would bother me

I see nothing obviously wrong with this watch. Whether a service dial or not it is period correct which is important. The cyclops magnification is normal. It appears to be a very nice watch.

Dial, hands, and bezel appears to be service. The crown guard seemed overpolished.
I would not buy it as an investment watch or one which you hope the value will rise. If you can get it at a good price, then it could be a daily wearer. |

Not every one can wear a 1680 everyday, hence the very reason I wear this one. While it will never be a center piece of a collection, it will be the center piece of my wrist. Which is what makes life great!
Best wishes on your hunt for a watch. |
