Hey everyone. I don't have the best eye for vintage so I thought I'd post some photos of the model my wife purchased from a local jeweler recently. They have a good reputation here locally but I still wanted a few more opinions.

This is apparently a ref 6580 with a calibre 1030 from 1952. At first, nothing really jumped out at me. It feels hefty, machining is of the usual Rolex quality that I've handled, and I was able to find the typical case engravings at 12 and 6 one of which indicated ref 6580.

What bugs me though is the dial. I suspect it may have been re-finished or butchered at some point and the absence of any "Swiss" markings concerns me a bit. I've seen Rolex dials missing "Swiss" markings before but I don't know much about the issue as a whole.

Anything I should be concerned about? I'd appreciate the help.

The dial has been refinished. Besides that, the rest of the watch appears to be authentic.

As I'm sure you are aware, most of the value lies in the originality of the dial. Hope you didn't pay too much for this one..

I figured, and thankfully I didn't. Shame though - seems to be the case with a lot of early 50s models. Do you think the refinishing resulted in the omission of a "Swiss" marking? Or did Rolex only indicate that on luminous dials?

the ink and font seem to clearly be re-done.

Typically the swiss is difficult to re-ink and is left off of refinished work. Rolex put Swiss on all dials - it is a source of pride in manufacture.

That case sure looks nice for being 50s. Those lugs looks super long. Can you post a pic of the engravings?

The coronet looks too high up, interfering with the has markers.

the coronet location is correct. it's the repainting that diminishes the value.

Really neat how it has original Brevet crown, however "Oyster Perpetual" as well as "Chronometer" writings definitely refinished :(
