Ceramic Daytona from AD at retail price. Should I?

I have a long standing relationship with my AD and while I was visiting this week she said that she'll get me a ceramic Daytona if I want and not charge me a penny over retail.

Am I crazy not to do it? I am in the market for a SS watch, but was thinking about trading up my DD2 for a Patek 5712. Those new Daytonas sure are snazzy although I find they look just a little small on my 8" wrist.

Curious to here thoughts.

They're your wrists.

You know what fits better than anyone here.

I think that at this time a Daytona 116500 at retail is a bargain, but then I'm no expert.

If it doesn't "sing" to you then let someone else enjoy it. They do tend to wear small, even though I haven't tried on the Ceramic.
What dial ?

D500 is nice, but it's no 5712, get that one as planned, unless you can be bothered with the buying to flip for a quick profit stuff.

Unless you're absolutely filthy rich, $13,000 seems like a lot of money to spend on a watch you don't love, just because a bunch of dudes on a forum wish they could get one.

5712 and the Daytona are very similar in size.

Just something to think about.

Very true, with the Rolex having a 5 year warranty and being far more widely desireable too. Ruggedness also goes to the Rolex as once he scratches the bezel on the Patek it'll open a can of worms in possible problems others have been experiencing.

It's one of the hottest (Rolex) watches on the market. I would take it.

If it don't float your boat, I'll take it off you hands

Only buy a watch that sings to you. Many people love this Daytona, but if it doesn't excite you then you could use those moneys to buy something that will be more to your liking.

Before doing anything, wait 11 more hours...Padi should be along by then and you'll get a confirmation post on which direction makes sense.

The Nautilus is the same size as the Daytona. Both might look small on your large wrists. You should try them both on before buying either.

You can always flip it for a profit if you don't like it.

From the phrasing, it doesn't seem she has the watch in hand correct? She may not actually be able to get it as fast as she implied-but who knows. Regardless, take the watch and keep or flip for $$$

Thank you for the replies. I love this place! :)

I would not feel right accepting the watch at cost from my AD due to our relationship and then reselling at a profit.

I also don't think I can transfer the deal to someone else as I'm certain it would go to the next person on the existing wait list.

I can't find either to try on! But I've been disappointed since I traded my last SS watch (DSSD) for a Bluesy. I have a YG DD2 and the Bluesy now, but I really need a SS as a daily.

Decisions, decisions!

P/S I'm on the fence about trading my YG DD2 for the 5712. I just bought the DD2 in March and the best offer I got was my DD2 plus $4K for a used (mint) 5712.

Sucks considering retail is the same for both...

I wouldn't buy it because I wouldn't give it enough wrist time. Your AD is doing you a solid. If it doesn't float your boat I'd let him extend the courtesy to another of his customers. If you got that offer walking into some random AD then buy it and flip it, but you have a relationship with this one. Be cool.

Why would the AD have charged you more than retail to begin with?

I would not turn around and resell a 116500 from my AD due to the relationship either, so I can relate.

Do not buy a watch that you don't want just because of the hype. I did that with the 116520 and realized with time that the only reason I got it was because it was in demand. Flipped it when it was losing wrist time.
