Buying my first AP!

I just bought my first AP - an offshore diver. Will post pics when it gets delivered.

With the good news out of the way, I wanted to ask the AP people their opinion:

Do you think the 15202R will get discontinued anytime soon? I tried on the watch this past weekend and LOVE it but I can't afford it just yet. I would hate to see it discontinued before I get purchase one.

Do you think the AP Royal Oak Extra Thin (JUMBO) is here for the long haul?

Will AP make changes to the model or do they normally just leave things as is?

Thanks!

Not anytime soon.

The one that sells now is very close to the original so it has looked pretty much the same for over 40 years. How long the exact ref 15202 will be in production is hard to but I can almsot for certain say that there will "always" be a "Jumbo" in the lineup.

They do mostly minor updates, clasp, dial, etc..

Thanks!! I was so torn between a rolex and AP ...mainly focusing on the yatchmaster with oysterflex but I kept walking by an AP boutique and then started learning about the watch and the design was just beautiful. I finally went in and tried some watches (RO Jumbo, ROC, and the diver). I wanted an everyday watch and it just felt right. But the Jumbo in rose gold felt so nice...I didn't try on a ST jumbo but I wonder if I'd like that just as much (it's like half the price!)

Ideally it would be great to get a 15202 with the AP at 6 o clock so I'll be saving up and hopefully get it within a year. I don't know how the second market is for APs yet but I was just planning on buying new.

Do you think the AP in gold will scratch as easily as an AP in ST? I heard their prone to scratches.

Yes gold will scratch even easier than SS. I think the Jumbo as it is now is here to stay for a long time, it's much better than the previous edition, so we should see it for a while, wh change a perfect product...

The Jumbo is here to stay (i think), it's the counterpart of the 5711 Nautilus and almost as hard to get one. Congrats on the Diver.

The RG AP is very beautiful but rather delicate, like the RG Nautilus, I would buy it new and wear it carefully to preserve its exquisite lines and decadence, and have the SS/Rolex for the harder yards.

I only have my 15400 that I have worn over a longer time but I do have a gold rolex and I can definetly say that a gold watch scratches more easily. Just rubbing of clothing leaves decent marks over time. But don't worry about it, there is nothing cooler than a well worn luxury piece.

Congrats on your Diver! Looking forward to pics.
The Jumbo is going nowhere (at least not the SS). It's their most iconic watch.
