Rolex Shopping (used) Mexico City
Heading to Mexico City for a few days. Any good spots to pick up used/vintage Rolexes in CDMX?

I've heard of "El Monte de Piedad" downtown. Haven't been there though.

The thought scares the hell out of me.
And I'm quite familiar with Mexico city. All the high end stores charge high end prices without the burden of regulation ;) |

I've been to Mexico City many times in the late 90's early 00's. Wouldn't catch me buying a Rolex there and this was before crime got crazy in the country. First time I went I was pulled over and had to give the cops 600 pesos. This was a block from the airport.

Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Don't know about Mexico City itself, but I've trauled all the Rolex dealers in Cancun in the last couple of months and they've got to be the most overpriced Rolex watches on the planet!

I would buy a Rolex from a street vendor in Times Square before I would even think about buying one in Mexico City.

Just like ANY other major capital, there are plenty of good (reputable and safe) and bad places to do business, you just need to know where to shop. |

Why would you want to take such risk?

I'm originally from Queretaro, a two hour drive from Mexico City. Haven't been there in a couple of years though and to my knowledge there is a new boutique with a pretty impressive portfolio. Lange, AP, JLC, etc.
The name of it is "EMWA." I'm going to pay them a visit this Christmas break and I'll report back. |

Why? Yes, there are many ADs but prices are 20% above MSRP and then you struggle to get anything between 0% and 20% down from that price. Once you buy it, good luck once you are out of the store! (I've been told there are constant spotters outside the store to follow you and relieve you from your new possession). Used Rolexes? Not a chance. Monte de Piedad has nothing and if you find anything else in downtown Mexico City the probability of it having been stolen are almost certain. I did some work there years ago. Nice food and people, but not a watch buying capital of the world in my opinion.

I've heard that EMWA has a great boutique in Monterrey so if they have a location in Mexico City it will be good. Also the VAT tax in Mexico is 16% for goods and services within Mexico, so if you can make a good deal plus get some VAT refund for taking the purchase out of the country.....Paging GerardoG....
