Need info
New guy here and I'm new to watches and Rolex in particular. I recently acquired what I was told was a day date masterpiece special edition with black mother-of-pearl dial. However, I was also told that it was a meteorite dial. I believe the watch is from circa 2002 and is made of 18 karat gold not platinum. Any info on the specific model number and model description would be greatly appreciated. I found watches online that look exactly like this watch but they are platinum not 18 karat white gold. I have also found some that are 18 karat yellow gold. Thanks

I am far from an expert but that watch is not looking good to me. Day appears off centered; date wheel appears blank or in between numbers; coronet looks off and I don't believe that watch was made in white gold (as opposed to platinum as you pointed out). Like I said I am no expert but I hope you did not pay much for it. Then again I could be wrong...

I'm not really questioning the authenticity, although you never know. The date is present. I didn't buy it it was a gift. Anyone else have any info? Here's another photo.

The Rolex Masterpiece edition was a 39mm version of the Day Date with it's own unique bracelet.
The reference number will be on the side of the case under the bracelet. Usually the first question to ask "am I likely to get a $50,000 gift watch". If the answer is yes, let the research begin.

I second the fake. The bracelet looks too sloppy on all the edges unless it's seen a ton of over polish, the end links look awful and the "Swiss made" at the bottom should be under the 6 o'clock marker should it not?

I'd take it to an AD or the nearest RSC. At that point, you'll know for sure if it is kosher.

Thanks guys, I am going to take it in to a Rolex dealer to get a definitive opinion. If the consensus on here is confirmed it's gonna be an interesting conversation I have with the person that I acquired it from. I would like to believe he didn't know. But it's not like I'm out any thing. I wonder if it's even gold. LOL

I gave it back to him this morning telling him that I thought he should know it was a fake. He said he's taking it back to the jewelry store where he bought it and has already conferred with them about it over the phone and they said they would make it right. Despite me telling him just to forget about it, that it was no big deal he assured me that he would come back after the Thanksgiving break or sooner with a suitable authentic replacement. As for the long story, I'll truncate it and say that it was a gratuity for a problem I solved for a client.
