Model 3139 Date Confusion
I recently acquired a 3139. It has a beautiful patina salmon dial, Mercedes hands, matching the dial patina, "Army" lettered underneath the "Rolex" name, below the 12 'position and a small circular secondhand placed at the bottom of the dial. There are no markings on the outside of the case other than the serial # 231xxx and " Stainless Steel R.M.C and nothing between the lugs.
A serial# lookup says it could be circa 1942 or 1956, after the numbering started all over again. Any way to tell for sure what year it is without cracking the case? Thanks |

It's ca. 1942. These are '30s-40s watches. The SN at this time was engraved on the outer case back. Only by 1946 was it placed betwixt the lugs.
Oh, and a photo would be nice! Here is mine:

Sorry Adam, I can't seem to find out how to post a picture. I have been following the instructions in the FAQ, but they do not work.
The FAQ says to go to your User Cp and there you will find a "Pictures and Albums" Link. Well it is not in my user cp. I haved also done a search but, nada Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

You mean that all the years I've been here I never realized I could upload photos directly? Yikes. (trying it now)
Anyway, here is my 3139 from the seller's photo. It needed a new crystal and crown/case tube, but the dial was flawless.
