Traders Remorse - Part III

Ok guys, today the AD advised that they have my sentimental value DJ but do not have the original warranty certificate which I had included. It showed the serial # and my AD but had never been fully signed.

Considering it's age (late 80's) should I not worry about the missing warranty? Should I renegotiate the price based on them losing it or just be happy I got my watch back?!

A positive is that I still have the original receipt (I told you I was sentimental) so can send a COPY when I take the watch to Dallas RSC.

I would think that you would be fine with your original receipt. That said, I have absolutely no knowledge to back that up. I don't think a re-negotiation is out of the question. I'm glad they still have your piece!

Me too! Thanks so much for the encouragement.

Feel free to negotiate but understand you're doing so from a point of weakness as they know you have sentimental attachments to the watch.

I don't think there is any reason you will need an original receipt for service at Rolex. The warranty is long over correct?

Yes true; but I'd think it good to have if I'm ever asked to prove ownership or that it was purchased at AD.

Pardon the ignorance, but why would it matter? If it's being sent in for service, not under warranty, then it shouldn't matter at all, correct?

I'd be happy if that is something that meant so much to me, and I was able to get it back. If you don't ever intend on selling it again, I wouldn't sweat the small details too much.

You'll have your new receipt from AD as well.

Agreed...I really appreciate the feedback and glad I'm not the only sentimental one on the forum. In times like these, it would be nice to have a heart emoticon holding on to his (or her) watch.

I can't imagine any reason to particularly care for an outdated warranty card. I say get the watch and enjoy the hell out of it and never even think about flipping it to anyone but a son or grandson!

it's too bad to lose it but I'm pretty sure it's not that big a deal for a 1980's basic DJ. Experts correct me if I'm wrong but unless it's a presentation dial or "Tiffany" watch or something, the warranty paperwork couldn't be that valuable, and as you know at least 99% of the sentiment is in the watch!

Congrats on getting it back. There are 1 or 2 I wish I could get back.

Your next post should be a pic of that watch back on your wrist. Hurry up before someone beats you to it.

Thanks everyone for your patience, understanding and encouragement! This watch was worn continuously from 1988 to 2016. It's been with me through the best and worst of times and it felt like losing a great friend. I'm very glad she's back!

Thanks and big hugs to you all!

It is! How did you guess? I was so eager to see it and get it home. It reminded me of how I felt waiting for Santa! The bracelet feels lighter and looser than I remember but I suspect it's because it was steam cleaned and because I've been wearing my heavier DJ36 and GMTIIc.

I won't Henry! I'm going to live in fear of the text lashing that I'll get if I even think about it! :-)
