Tudor Ref 79260 Year about 1990 - FAKE??
Hello everyone !
I've just joined this forum today, because I'm a first time buyer of a Tudor Chronograph - or wanna be! I have a modern TUDOR Black Bay Blue, but having fallen in love with my Tudor, I've started some research. So - I've been offered this watch - I only have photos and no documents yet. I've been told that the series number starts with B888xx, and its around 1990. What troubles me is that in all the forums, I have not yet found an example where the dial only features the word TUDOR and instead of SWISS MADE, only SWISS. I'm worried it could be a fake. I would welcome some comments from the members of the forum! Thank you in advance Dan |

The problem I see is the polished lugs indicate a 79260P. The dial, if authentic [I seem to possibly remember very early Big Blocks w/ Tudor only], is a much earlier example w/ angled hour markers and date window surround. Also, the 792X0P references didn't come w/ Rolex crown. Normally a Tudor crown, case back, and Prince Date dial. Although the crown could be changed to Rolex during a service.

Possibly a bit of a Franken? All real parts but from different eras?

Thanks for your comments!
If the seller can provide some papers and service history I'll feel happier. |

Are you sure the serial number isn't seven characters? Like B88xxxx? That would be late-1990's and explain the polished lugs. Although I agree the dial seems like a replacement. Sharp looking watch if the price is right!

I've seen numerous transitional/pre-Tiger chronos of that vintage with the Rolex crown and case back, or even one but not the other. So, that wouldn't be a concern. However, as Dan mentioned: The dial is not period-correct. It looks to be from a much earlier 94XXX reference to me. |

Hello NKFlyer - yes correct, I'm told the reference number is B888xxx - which would be seven charachters - Dan
