Showdown - "Batman" vs "Hulk" vs "Kermit"
Hi all, I am pretty new to the forum and am looking at purchasing my first rolex. I've narrowed it down to 3 models. The 16610lv "Kermit", the 116610lv "Hulk" and the 116710blnr "Batman". I am hoping to get some feedback on which watch others prefer and why. Have any of you been torn between these? How was your experience? Right now I'm leaning towards the Batman as I love the black/blue dial and feel that it is a pretty flexible watch when compared to say the all green hulk, I also really like the green and black color scheme on the Kermit and the pre-ceramic dial, but I'm not a big fan of the bracelet as it does feel a little flimsy for such an expensive watch.
Another thought on these is there is a guy down the street who has both a brand new BLNR and a pre-owned Kermit in stock. Are the BLNR's currently going for over retail BNIB? He wants $9k which seems a tad high, but I've also seen them going pre-owned for between $8k and $9k so for the few extra hundred it seems like it may be worth going with the new. Here's where it gets a little trickier, for $2k less I can get the Kermit, which IMHO I believe is the better buy financially as in the long run I think the 50th anniversary will hold its value better and may even appreciate, while I see the Batman as possibly being more of a fad and the the current high prices will come back to earth especially if a new SS Pepsi or Coke is released. What do you guys think? |

i heard kermit is a crazy sob. also, he has miss piggy as his bouncer.
in all seriousness id get the watch you like irrespective of price (as long as you can afford it). watches are priced differently for a reason. this is not over msrp... http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=507000

That would be an easy decision for me, as I prefer the pre-ceramic sport models from Rolex. A 5-digit Sub is perfection.

I think the BLNR will get the nod from most, however, it it were my choice for my only Rolex, of the three I'd go for the Hulk.

I've tried on the hulk several times and love it. I will probably pick up an EXPII first though. Just more function for me. Out of your picks I would go hulk. Many will say BLNR I imagine. Outside the standard get what sings to you response.

As far as the new vs pre-owned, with the going prices for both being within a few hundred dollars in many cases I would think it would be worth it to go ahead and pay the premium for the unworn piece, thoughts? Also, the Kermit doesn't include the box or papers, now I know this isn't a big deal to a lot of people, but it is nice to have them. Just a little more about other pieces I'm currently wearing, I have 2 Omega's that I wear primarily as dress watches, a Seamaster Aqua Terra and a vintage Omega Seamaster. I also own an Oris Aquis 40mm that is my everyday dive/beater watch. I am turning 30 and figure it's a great time to treat myself to my first (and I'm sure not my last) Rolex. |

You have a lot of SS already. Have you thought about a grail piece in Gold? Many pieces in the for sale section. Around 12 to 15 k

Forget resale value, they are all great.
If each is available, buy the one that you'll wear at any time all the time.

Never owned a Kermit but I've held one. I like the Ceramics better.
I've owned the BLNR - Hate PCLs I've owned the Hulk, I've sold the Hulk, I regretted selling the Hulk, I re-acquired the Hulk. Hulk for me.

Well the vintage is on leather and the Aquis is on rubber, so the Aqua Terra is the only one currently with a SS bracelet. I have thought about going gold, but then again I'm not a huge gold fan in general, well yellow gold at least. I have looked into the Bluesy with the gold center links, but am still more of a fan of the all SS vs the two-tone look. If it was feasible I'd have already bought the 116719 White Gold Pepsi, will probably have to wait until my 50th for that one

I have to agree, the PCLs are one of the only drawbacks of this piece IMO.

Kermit has all the best design features; slim case, maxi dial and alu insert.
If I had to choose between the BLNR and the Kermit, I had sold the BLNR - even though I really like the GMT. |

My suggestion is : Function first, that's where the GMT comes into play (for me). So do a little evaluation and see what complication you might use most. Next is color, again, personally i like it clean and simple, so i lean toward a black. Now as to your choices, don't forget other versions of the GMT, some might even wear more comfortable for you (another great point). Once you're done with all these consideration and still stuck on our election, the 116610lv "Hulk" gets my nod, maybe not as a one and only. Sticks a bit out from the usual crowd of Subs, looks fantastic in sun light. Have fun with the hunt...

My vote would be the kermit, hulk, and then batman but i may be a little bias.
You cant go wrong with any of those three so go with the one that makes you the happiest
