When does the madness end?

...you are happy with your current collection, and as much as you love the brand, somehow you are 'ok'. Then you see an incoming thread..... http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=509608 and the madness starts....AGAIN!

I know the answer, but would you mind reminding me why I do NOT need a green sub, OP39 and a couple of other timepieces?

Thank you for your 'support'

I agree that that watch is very appealing and tempting.

Prior to 'finding' this site, I had one Rolex. One that I've had for quite some time. Fast forward a bit - I've since purchased FOUR Rolexes is as many months. Thanks, in part, to this forum, the ever so tempting 'incoming' threads, and the pics posted of so many awesome watches.

You fellas are a bad influence. And for that, I thank you! :)

Just imagine the contrast of the Green Sub against the fresh cuts of USDA Prime and grilled tomatillos...

G, I think you need a green Sub.

I guess everyone is different and I know this is a tongue-in-cheek thread.

For me it was when I had nearly 100K in watches and realized that I could not and was not wearing them all.

I still need to sell more to get down to the best of the best for me.

Good luck!

The madness stopped for me...

when interests shifted to different hobbies. Haven't bought a watch in a year or two; don't desire to. Still wear one of my 7 nice watches everyday and enjoy them every bit as much as I always did but don't go looking for new ones. The bug will however likely bite again eventually...

The first Sub that I got, I think I can get my money back 100%. For the rest, I think I can still get 90% of my money if I decide to sell. So basically I have not spent $40k on watches. It is only $4K. Rest of the money I can get back whenever I feel like.

I started a thread a while back about watch addiction that came under very heavy scrutiny. Interning how perceptions have changed.

I think hobbies and collections go through phases like anything else. I agree that TRF is very good at keeping someone that is in a heavily interested phase active. I have my eye on two more watches and I think I'll be good. They will likely retire two watches I currently have but they are not worth selling. A Hamilton and an Oris. So I will have a bunch of watches and some of them will barely see the light of day.

When does it end?

I'm gonna be just like you. The job, the family, the big television. The washing machine, the car, the compact disc and electric tin opener, good health, low cholesterol, dental insurance, mortgage, starter home, leisure wear, luggage, three piece suite, DIY, game shows, junk food, children, walks in the park, nine to five, good at golf, washing the car, choice of sweaters, family Christmas, indexed pension, tax exemption, clearing gutters, getting by, looking ahead, the day you die.

After decades of this, it's all about having fun and enjoying your time. You also learn which brands are the real deal and which ones are smoke and mirrors.

Rolex is the real deal.
