In solemn memory of 9/11.....

7 years on......and what a terrible and fateful that day it was. I remember being glued to the CNN channel watching it all happening......and watching the death of the innocents!!

Guys, please don't start this into a political thread. Let's just say a small prayer and observe a minute's silence in solemn memory of those thousands who were needlessly massacared on one of the darkest days in the history of America.

God bless - JJ

JJ, thanks for making the US your kindest thought for the day. It means a lot to us. You're a classy guy.
Since we're all pretty respectful here, I'll trust you all with my feelings on the day.
I don't want to observe a moment's silence. I don't wish to reflect.
I want to yell and kick something.
I am angry.

Thanks for posting this, JJ. Thank you to all our friends overseas who have such compassion.

I can still remember the exact moment I heard - out for a walk with my 15 month old in the stroller, and a few weeks pregnant - I heard it on my walkman. I recall thinking at first that the radio station was playing a tasteless joke.

Each generation, from all walks of like, has its "Day of Infamy". I am sad to say, for me, that September 11, 2001 will be mine.

Today, as I awake, it's a beautiful sunny September day. Exactly the same as 7 years ago.
There's a special place in Heaven for the innocent and a special place in hell for those who attack them.

It's irrational, magical, nonsensical thinking like that which brought us the attacks in the first place, but I'll digress.

There is no-one who has a more broad minded view of the whole subject matter than I.

This being said any needless flaming, jingoism or general shitstorming on this thread is not warranted.

It is a tribute to those needlessly slaughtered on the day. Anyone choosing to be disrespectful or deliberately agitating will be sending out a big "please ban me" message.

I understand - it just boils up the blood a little for someone to use the exact same reasoning that provoked these attacks, to condemn them. I, for one, will do my part not to let the thread turn into a flame-war. But If I could ask kindly people not bring up any mystical deities, or magical lands of good and evil, this thread might go a little smoother.

Little perspective here.

As Joe said, there is always a day in infamy. I was not born when JFK was murdered but I will never ever forget the events of September 11th 2001, as will nobody of this generation.

I was actually at college when a lecturer came in and told us what had happened. At first we thought accident, plane crash etc.

At a break I strolled home and watched with horror at what unfolded. I remember sitting watching news coverage all night.

The next couple of days were like shell shock. At work, the subject was discussed in depth. The tragedy, the horror, the politics and the repercussions.

This was an event which truly changed the world we live in!

Even now when we watch dumb ass tv stuff like Friends, Claire and I will still comment on "Can you believe it's gone?" when they show the NY skyline.

2,726 people died on that day. Besides the few who caused it, they were not interested in war, oil or America's foreign policy in the Middle East.

2726 innocents is tragedy enough but the numbers affected directly or indirectly by this event is truly terrible.

Please, lets put our guns on the ground, forget about our politics and remember that we are all the same deep down.

We are all human.

Just for this day can we all act human?

Its a day of remembrance not philosophical discussion, try and show a bit of sensitivity

A terrible day. It was just about this time, maybe another 5 minutes or so, that I got a call from a good friend telling me about it and to turn on the news. It still gets to me to see video of that day.

What I said has nothing to do with philosophy. This thread is religious in nature, calling for prayer, but I don't see anyone calling anyone out on that? The September 11 attacks were religious attacks.

I agree. Let's take things like philosophy, religion, politics off the table, and simply pay our respects. That's what I want, too.
