Cell phone question

I dropped my cell phone into the harbour (again) last weekend. Was able to retrieve it and rescue the SIMM card, although the phone has the Red Dot Of Death. I bought a Motorola RAZR2 V9 that seems pretty good but I've run into a snag. It has limited choices for ring tone, and when I called to find out how to install the Rolex theme MP3 sound clip that I've sent to many members here, I was told that it couldn't be done.

Somebody mentioned something about the phone being locked, and that it can be unlocked to allow download of the clip. Does anyone here know anything about that?

P.S. The new phone has extended warranty which includes water damage.

ok i am a little confused. i have the V8 and my Girlfriend has the v9 so i know they are 99% the same your is black (probably) mine is a metallic blue/silver. Have you got the clip on your computer? Have you tried to upload it onto your phone but it is not allowing this file to be transferred. If so i am not sure why this would happen. Unlocking usually refers to your phone being open to other networks. BUT also i am in the UK and maybe your phone is locked like that but i have never heard of that situation here.
Also you could record the clip by voice recorder onto the phone and then you can set it as ringtone.

have you installed the motorola software onto your PC and copy the file to the correct location.
you need to find out what file extension you need to have to make it work (i can remember on the top of my head for motorola). the fgile extension can differ for fifferent make/models.
mostime you can find a free conersion software to convert the file into the required file extension for your phone.

Al, you should get one of those clear plastic waterproof phone bags. When I was racing (bowman and jib trimmer on a First Benny 40.7), I kept my phone in one of those, looped around my neck along with my knife. Should it drop, it also floats, and the best thing is, you can use the phone without taking it out of the bag/sleeve.... like a condom

Don't see why your phone would be crippled, especially since it's not Verizon, so unlocking it wouldn't help you out in this instance. Just get a data cable and Motorola Mobile Phone Tools (or whatever it's called these days) and you should be set.

from one fellow Canuk to another, especially since I am a chinese guy I am rather well versed at stuff like this (or at least EVERYONE at the office thinks so )

I am sure you can find a chinese store near you that sells phones and phones accessories from over seas. Most of these stores will "unlock" a Razr for about $40 what this does is that it takes the limitations out of the phones firmware and software allowing it to use software (pics, vids, sounds) from in formats other than the ones that motorola wants you to use.

Hope this helps
