Hi Everyone. New around these parts

hello all.
taking the plunge it's wise to do ones homework. This is one of the most informative and friendly forums on the web (in my opinion). I have been weighing out the gray market vs AD. Has anyone delt with the following ebay store?

Ot180,

Welcome aboard! Your question is a very popular topic, as there are soooooo many avenues to purchase since the Internet was discovered.

Personally, I’m sure there are some legitimate grey market dealers that are trustworthy, but I can tell you buying from an authorized dealer surly leaves any doubt about the authenticity of your watch!

Furthermore, Rolex watches are counterfeited so well these days, it would be a shame that you spent your hard earned money on a piece of garbage, and not the real deal!

Good luck on whichever you decide, just make yourself an educated consumer prior to buying.

Matt

welcome to TRF

I have never dealt with them but the watch look s100% real.

BUT it is not 2008 M series or the current V series it is at the latest a Z series which were produced in 2006 and early 2007. it may be brand new but it is still a year old at least. I know this because when the M serial was released in 2007 they stopped putting the green sticker with the model number on the back. Just email the seller and ask what letter of the serial number is.

Every year or so rolex start the serial numbers of watches produced with a different letter to make there watches easier to date.

Just my two cents worth: On TRF we say, 'buy the seller, not the watch', by which members mean, if you know the seller is trustworthy, the watch you get is very likely to be the real deal. I think if you buy from someone you know well, or someone whom is known by trusted friends/associates you will not go wrong. AD's, without a doubt provide a safe sure method of buying a high end watch, but there are many great deals out there that can be obtained by purchasing from a reliable grey market guy/gal.
I stay away from ebay, but many here do deals through ebay and are happy. However, those who are successful on ebay are generally successful because they are extremely careful and knowledgeable. i would look on TRF first for your watch, there are regular sellers with many references. good luck!
best,
dan

Great information. Thank you guys. It may be worth paying an extra 1500 to sleep well at night. No matter what you do for a living...this is a big purchase. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Very well said. I have not done anything on e-bay and I like here on TRF better.
Looks fine and the Z-serial is from 06-07 as mentioned above and usually you can try to get a lower price since the cost basis for a watch dealer is lower.

There are a number of webpages online that explain the differences between the authentic and the counterfiet. This will help you eliminate some right off the bat. Of course, some are better copies than others and harder to distinguish the real from the fake. Also, don't just stop at one website. Educate yourself and check out a number of sites. Many have different tips and hints than others.
And I do love the idea of buying the seller, not the product, because an honest seller definitely is your best bet.

I have purchased watches on ebay, but not high end ones that I wanted original paperwork, warranty, etc. That said make sure they have close to 100% positive and they have sold many hundreds of items.
