BLNR a passing fad?

With Basel fast approaching and no telling what new models Rolex will release will the allure of the BLNR fade off? With the increasing prices of the 5 digit GMT II's I have been looking at just getting a GMT C, better bracelet and tripple lock crown. The 116710 LN is a cheaper buy (used) compared to the BLNR used. I like the BLNR but I don't have to have it. Wonder if these will drop a little more after Basel especially if they release a Coke Ceramic.

if a SS coke drops the BLNR pricing will as well (2ndary market). if the coke is in PM then it wont impact the BLNR.

people think the coloring may be wrong on a ceramic coke. i doubt it though, black and red are easier to blend than red and blue.

A SS Coke would hit the BLNR hard but, as Eliot said, if it's PM the impact would be much less.

I honestly think that the blnr looks better than a ceramic coke in steel. I mean blue > red amirite?

Disagree, BLNR is a great piece that will likely stand the test of time

Coke ceramic might be released in Basel 2017. Nobody knows but Rolex. However, it is very unlikely to come in SS. Personally, if you really want BLNR, go for BLNR. But, if you're still not sure you should wait until this Basel fair and make a clear decision later. Good luck.

the ln gmt c stands the test of time, still the 2ndary market price was negatively impacted by the blnr (which is a good thing for anyone wanting one).

I agree with Dave.
BLNR is at least the first bi-color-bezel ceramic GMT watch from Rolex.

I still don't like the maxi dial and huge hour numerals on the bezel insert. Burns my eyes!

I think for the masses the BLNR is more pleasing to the eye than the SS CokeC will be as the red will be a bit jarring. Many of us here will want one but that is not enough to really hurt the BLNR market, so I think all three will co-exist without too much hassle. I doubt an SS will be out this year and right after the much awaited D500, but think it will in the next three.

How is this relevant to the OP's question?

The BLNR was released in 2013.

We've had 3 Baselworld's since then and the BLNR is still ridiculously popular -
'Fad' isn't a word I would associate with it...

I suggest just waiting it out another few weeks and all your questions will be answered.
If you need to make a decision right away, personally, I would take the BLNR now if you can find one from an AD or trusted seller.

Very well said Neil!! The previous generation GMTs (blue/red, black/red) were not huge sellers when they were in production. The BLNR seems to be annually pulling better numbers than it's predecessors (I am sure Rolex has the exact numbers).

So safe bet that the BLNR will hold value well regardless of any possible releases.

If the BLNR could be considered a passing fad, then I feel sorry for the rest of the Rolex lineup!

I don't think so.

They got the colors just right with it. Its going to be a classic staple of any Rolex collection.

A SS Ceramic Coke would hit BLNR sales...

A PM Ceramic Coke would hit BLRO sales...

Why would Rolex commit commercial suicide by releasing either of those 2 watches?

Makes no sense...

Any way they need to work on the red on the Ceramic bezel...it looks quite pink against the blue on the BLRO, putting it against black to make a coke will only exaggerate the 'pinkness'... it needs to be a deeper shade of red. my

If the coke came back in SS and replaced the BLNR, the BLNR would have only had a 4 year production run. It's prices may drop in the short term as BLNR owners trade for a coke, but in the long run I think history would be very kind to BLNR values

BLNR is still very popular with many people. How many BLNR's have you ever seen available at an AD? I'm a lurker and everytime I pop my head into an AD (NY, SF, Vegas) and I have never seen one in display.

IMHO the BLNR will stay strong. It is the first blue-black as opposed to an updated version of a blue-black. The color combination has been popular and has some relevance, blue daylight hours, black nighttime. I guess until another version , or if another version comes into the market know one really knows. As always time will tell :-)

Face facts, 5 digit anything sports = increase in value over time, that's just how it is. Doesn't matter if it's a Sub' or a GMT, they wont get cheaper.
Now look at new 6 figure watches. At the moment they jump around a little in value but I'll bet in 25+ years time they will all be worth more than they are now!
Unless you plan on buying 10-20 of the same watch my advice would be buy what you like wearing and stop worrying about value. Value is a long term thing and even then, it's only ever going to be an investment if you plan on selling and cashing in hence my advice to buy 10 or 20. Far too many worrying about value and dropping the odd point instead of enjoying wearing a great watch whatever the colour on the dial or bezel. When you start running out of years it will become clear ;)
