Really, your dentist should be willing to see you if he's in town. Hard to tell from your description. If there is an open cavity, you can look for some over the counter temporary filling material to cover the spot. If you are being awakened at night, this tooth may be abscessing and you will need a prescription for antibiotics. If you have a good relationship with your dentist (have check-ups regularly and follow through with suggested treatment) I can't understand why he wouldn't see you. If you don't have a relationship, well

I'm with you and I feel for you as well. Currently going through an issue with a pinched Sciatic nerve. What they gave me initially wasn't any relief at all. As the weekend arrived and I was awaiting the insurance referral process for a back injection everything went sideways as I ended up in administrative limbo. At least the emergency room gave me an anti-inflammatory injection that seemed to help. Pinched nerves aren't only painful they're pretty mysterious as well. Oh, and you better make sure your ready to spend many a night in the Lazy Boy because you won't be able to sleep much at all in your bed.
I can't believe the process my doctor had to finally use when giving me something stronger. Still not good enough really. But it really appears the govt has really come down prescribing those stronger drugs.

You need some exotic drink like Ouzo from Greece. 40 odd percent alcohol..just keep it in your mouth for 5. It should ease the pain. if not drink a litre and you shall be fine
Good luck with the pain man. Tooth ache is the worst. |

I've also heard Clove Oil work well. I'd start dialing dentist in your area and beg to get in.

It sounds like mine has been relatively minor when compared to yours so far. Real glad to hear you finally got relief, that sounds simply aweful. Mine appears to be the result of a narrowing of the opening in the spine where the nerve exit. I just received my first injection a few days ago. The last few days have been the best I have had in over a month. However based on what I was told there is little predictability and no guarantees. All I can hope is the Doctors can get this sorted before it gets too much worse. Just not fun at all.

He's currently trying to weed himself off of the drugs now which has given me a bit of a pause. Even though everything they have given me so far and they gave me a bit of a bump is real weak, I'm trying my best not to take anything unless it gets real bad.

Clive oil. But the reality is by the time of the dentist the nerve will be dead and you won't be feeling anything. Cheers

I hate that feeling. I was the jacksss who ignored the dentist and it cost me 15k last year and I'm only 30. Try to see someone today not tomorrow. The pain is too much to bear when it's near infection level which is what your sounds like.
Pay the 30-40k or get financing. Life is miserable with a hurt mouth. |

Sorry to hear about your dental pain/discomfort. I've been there and in retrospect, there is oftentimes nothing worse. The endodontic diaries are filled with such accounts.
From what you have described, you either have a cracked molar or an unattended cavity. The lower back molars serve as a 'fulcrum' and absorb roughly 90% of the pressure when chewing. If possible, try to contact a weekend dentist (or your regular one) for an emergency diagnostic X-Ray. This will aid in getting to the bottom of things. Also consider taking some Advil (800 mg/2 tablets). The reason being is that Advil (an ibuprofen) is both an anti-inflammatory (reduces swelling) and pain reliever. It works differently than other pain-killers in that it coats the raw nerve endings rather than 'dulling' the nerve sensors in the brain. Try not to mix it in with the other pain relievers you are currently using as further complications may/can arise. The only caution for avoiding ibuprofen is if one has bleeding ulcers or a thin stomach lining (in which case, even aspirin should be avoided). Chances are you will require endodontics (a root canal) in order to save the tooth + a restorative crown following the procedure. Depending upon the severity of the case, you might also be prescribed an antibiotic (i.e. amoxicillin) for 7-10 days afterwards. In the meantime, a warm salt water rinse (as you are doing) and an ice pack will assist in alleviating some of your discomfort. As some others have mentioned, it's probably not a good idea to mix ethyl alcohol with the prescription meds. On the other hand, a high-quality/medical grade indica strain (along with some Advil) might help as it worked for me at the time. Avoid a typical sativa in that it will only make you more aware of your current condition. (I tried that once and it only made things worse). |

See a dentist/endodontist/doctor today. If it's an abscess (you say the pain is in your lower jaw teeth) and inflamed nothing is going to help much, certainly no old wives' treatment unless that old wife can prescribe antibiotics and perform a root canal. Untreated, the pain can become literally blinding/debilitating not to mention affect your general health.
