Does RG yachtmaster have too much black?

I have not seen The 116655 in person. Since I love rose gold, I have thought of getting the new rose gold yachtmaster. I have the SS yachtmaster with the blue dial. I wonder though if all that black might somehow overpower the watch? You have a black dial, black rubber strap and black bezel. For those who have it, does all that black over power the look of the watch?

I don't have it but I have tried it on many times at my AD. It's a gorgeous piece and my wife and I both love it. I don't think it's too much black at all. YMMV

**I do think it is overpriced however, IMHO**

I wanted to buy it for a very long time and almost convinced myself. I held out until I went to the AD. It is nicer in pictures in my opinion. The black strap had this faded rubber look to it and a lot of people convinced me for 20k I could have gotten a better watch for the money. Saving my money for a daytona c now.

I have both the blue dial SS YM and the RG YM. The RG YM is not too black and looks way better in person than in pictures. It also very comfortable.

Try it on and make the choice. The combo of matte black dial, gilt and red letters, and the bezel is really unique.

It's great for my wife. She bumps it into everything and the Elastomer covered nickle and titanium blade shows no marks...

Cool looking watch but yes I think there's too much black. I love Rose Gold myself. Picked up the YM 116621 and I love it

I tried one on in the UK last year. It felt a little too top heavy with the rubber strap, which is kind of understandable. I can't think why there are no other strap or bracelet options. The head is beautiful though and I'd say the balance of black and rose gold is fine.

The yellow gold Sub though, that's on my list for this year and I have a trade worked out with a couple of dealers to swap my TT and non-date in with the deal. That photo clinches it!

For me it is one of the best modern Rolex and absolutely perfect in every way. It looks much better also in person than pics. One of my favorites in my collection without a doubt!

Also the Oysterflex makes this watch - if it had a RG bracelet I would never have bought it. Not only super comfortable but also so balanced and not top heavy at all
due to ridges under the strap. You really have to see it in person and try on to understand.

Looks great there and the Oysterflex is a fine addition. I have the RG Daytona with a very similar colour scheme and that is not too dark.

I agree. I have tried it on several times and really want to love it as much as I do in the pictures but it is just lacking something for me.

My wife on the other hand is totally in love with it. It will probably be her next watch to be honest.

I tried one on this weekend. That was exactly my issue. You don't see much of the RG. As I moved through the light, the bezel just turned into a black ring. The sales person said it was the most polarizing Rolex they've had in a while. People either love it or really don't like it. Not much in between.

I don't think there is too much black. It is all a matter of preference / opinion. It is not for everyone but It is a beautiful piece. If possible put one on a wear it for a day.

I think this one is special. After trying it on and wife falling for it, I have to say, it's a great watch for people who wear dark and black tones a lot. The RG is more secondary than the black aperance, so if you're more a colorful dresser with a lighter skin tone, this might not work so well. But it's a brilliant pice.

IMO, it is very well thought out with just the right touches of RG to the black.

Had the good fortune to try one of these on a couple of weeks ago... I had been looking at every pic I could find and was thinking "maybe," but when I saw it in person, it was a game changer.

It does look better in person but for me, I find the black a little overwhelming.

Possibly the only Rolex that you don't get in value what you pay for. I agree with others...it's a lot of black and for the price it underdelivers. For a small bit more you can get a PM on bracelet. I think it's priced about $5-7k too high. It is a unique watch and I can see the appeal.

Looks like you're getting a lot of mixed opinions. I also think it looks better in pictures than in person. It seems "flat". Lots of black, like you said. The sunray/sunburst dials do it for me over this. Just my opinion.

Agree 100%. The black balances the RG IMHO. I've tried it on several times and have strongly considered flipping my AP and either PAM or Exp II to buy on, but I just can't part with the Royal Oak 15400.

I went to the AD Friday looking at Day Dates. I hadn't done Rolex for some time and was thinking maybe a big old bracelet full of gold on Inauguration Day. Well, the DD left me cold, as in the past. Then I saw the RG YM 116655. I immediately fell in love, made a deal and couldn't be happier!

If you want a full gold experience, it's probably not the watch. In that case, if one doesn't want a gold bracelet, I'd say go for a YG Daytona or a gold DJ on a strap. But for me, the YM was perfect. I've got a couple of gold strap watches (Breguet and Journe) and steel watches (Daytona, Sub and Royal Oak 15202), so the 116655 real appealed to me with its combination of rose gold with matt black, which is the perfect blend of sport and luxury. However, I view it as a niche watch.

I wonder if the rubber strap would crack and become lifeless looking with use? I also wonder if I would feel differently if it had rose gold accents on the bezel to break up the black -- similar to the rose gold Daytona 116515? Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing one at an AD.

From handling one of these in the store, I think the oyster flex is very well engineered and thought out. I would be surprised if it wasn't as durable as other Rolex products. One selling point to me was that it took the finding a new scratch every time you breathed on a gold bracelet off the table.

And, while I love RG, I like it in small amounts, so the RG accents against the black work well for me. But, do go and have a look at it in the flesh. That's the ultimate test.
