Can someone justify the new Mares 10k price tag?
Love the look but am having a hard time justifying 10k for an eta movement watch.

Nobody knows anything yet. I was at the Boutique a few days ago and no set price, no release date and not even 100% sure it's going to be ETA. But 10K is crazy especially compared to what else you can get for that money.

Not sure where you got that info, but assuming you are correct, here's my little rant...
What exactly does an in house movement offer over an ETA movement, unless it has a real complication like a Patek calendar? Furthermore, this is the same forum where people are paying close to a $million$ for a Paul Newman Daytona with a basic valjoux movement because of the dial?! We are talking about luxury watches here , and if you like them, you should realize there is no logic or justification for any of this when you consider you mobile phone is more accurate. What watches do you own that cost greater than $500 that you can justify the cost of based on the sum value of the parts? |

Considering other Panerai with hand wound in house movements are less money this Mare Nostrum does seem overpriced if it's ETA. The comparison to the PN Daytona isn't valid because it's a collectible and the Panerai isn't. The new JLC sector dial chrono is $8000 with an in house movement and will only be available for a year. A NIB Rolex sub is less than $9000. So the Mare Nostrum at 10K won't find its way into my collection even though I want one if it's ever released.

You realize Paul Newman dial sat in dealers cases literally for years at discounted prices because no one wanted them? They make millions of subs...not the case here. So again, what makes in house more valuable than ETA if it is COSC? What makes any of these luxury goods "worth" the money? Please understand, I own a sub, and many others. Just always funny to me when people start having the "worth it" conversation. These are luxury goods....none of them are "worth it" unless you like it |

Will wait and buy in secondary market at $4-5K in a year or two, problem solved.

x2....stupid accurate and durable. Easy to maintain 30 years down the road as well. Now what is the advantage for a in-house movement?????

It's very limited and demand is high. Why would Panerai price it low only to benefit flippers? At any rate, secondary pricing surely will be higher, at least for the short to medium term.
As for ETA, if you have to ask when it comes to Panerai, you don't get it, which is fine. Lots of other watches out there. Quote:
For this model, that will never happen. |

Cru you don't know how limited or even if it will be a limited release so how can you say what prices should be and where they will go? As far as what I do or don't get I have an opinion about the price of a non existent watch and how at 10K it doesn't seem like value for money. It is a nice looking watch.
