Icon19 AP Jules Audemars vs. A Lange & Söhne

Do the Jules Audemars dress watches hold up well against the A Lange & Söhnes in terms of value, prestige, build quality, movements etc?

Here are two watches, one from each brand costing around $20,000.00 new.

AP Jules Audemars Ultra Thin 41mm:

ALS 1815 40mm:

Would you put them on the same level or which one is the best value?

I don't think ap has much going for it outside of the royal oak lines. In this case, I'd get a lightly tickled 1815.

I am an AP fan but for pure dress watch, I will go for Lange or Patek. JA is not well regarded and probably bomb on resale.

+1. Much better options out there than AP for a dress watch.

I've handled the Jules pieces and they are really nice but as the guys say I see AP as excelling in the sports prestige field, and Lange and Patek more in the dress and comps field.

Go for the 1815 but as stated above "lightly tickled" for about 15-16k.

I take back my Statement.

You can get a PP 5110J for around that price. Its an amazing watch which much more of a complication than what you are proposing.

Its a 37mm but even if you have a big wrist. No one will say that its not a beautiful watch with the correct 37mm dress watch proportion by PP. If i ever get a dress watch this will be the one i get hands down.

AP means Royal Oak and Offshore to me. Lange competes with only Patek in that league...

New? Neither, used? I've seen a JA for well under $10k, probably a better choice that 1815

Excellent recommendation! But out of the 2 choices, I'd go with ALS.

I fully agree with all the comments here if you are buying retails. However some of the JAs seem to be trading at significantly lower prices vs its peers on the secondary market. I am personally considering one as I think it is a great price for what you get.

I would have to agree. I also really like the appearance of the Lange compared to this particular AP. I personally would get the UP/Down but that is me.

Just bought a pre-owned Audemars Jules white gold with cream colored enamel dial.. I hear many good things about ALS however on the wrist my JA is simply spectacular!
