Basel no joy, time to go GRAIL!!! Big question

I have been holding off untill Basel to make any watch purchases, and was nonplussed by the offerings this year. I have decided to get the watch I have been admiring from afar for years. A GMT2 YG. with a green dial. Now here is the big question. Are AD's more likely to negotiate prices on pm tool watches, than they are on SS models? My AD has not budged off MSRP for my DSSD or SubC, but I need to know if I am being a sucker f I pay full MSRP for this gold beauty. Thanks for any info!

Odd usage of "nonplussed" . Yes you're a sucker. Buy from a trusted seller here. PS you're going after like 10 years old model.

Yes you would be a big sucker to pay MSRP for any PM watch... contact a trusted seller and you will save over $10k...

I bought my new YG sub from an AD for less than these trusted sellers are asking..........and they took my CC without whining about the card fees.

Yeah, I really want to stick with an AD.. As far as using the word "nonplussed ", one of the definitions is to be caused to feel indifferent or bored, and that is exactly how I felt looking at the new options. I guess wanting a 10 year old model just makes me an old fashioned guy

I know everyone has their own preferences but may I ask why you wouldn't consider going the trusted seller route? Not saying you should, just curious that's all. Good luck on the pickup can't wait to see pictures

Tough crowd. it's been a long day.

I would find out what the sellers here could do for you then try to match it at your AD or call a bunch. Anyone who has that in stock is likely willing to deal on it.

I would want a fat discount. 20% preferably more.

It may be a 10 year old model but it's your GRAIL! You want it to be factory fresh, stickers on and perfect in every way. No worries about warranty issues or anything else. I'm with you, go the AD route. Peace of mind is so nice.

(Someone will follow this post and say there is no assurance the AD's watch is factory fresh but you will see it and handle it before the sale. If you have any doubt, you can ask them to order another... or walk down the street to the next AD.)

and for my 1000th post I'd like to say you can find this watch for less than msrp. Your AD needs to discount this piece somewhat aggressively. The secondary market for this watch is a little less than the black dial.

Personally, I'd try my luck in the UK if you have any inclination to go there at all and are just gunning for the best deal. With their current retail, the VAT and a 15% discount, you could get this watch for 20k. Given that yellow gold models are particularly slow movers in the UK, I believe that discount would be attainable, particularly if you head outside of London. Factor in the cost of the trip and 3% customs and it could be worth it.

Great watch. A grail no doubt.

I thought it meant something to do with golf.

Anyway nice choice and yes you should be able to negotiate a discount.
Just depends on how nonplussed the AD thinks you are.

Offer -20% and plead poverty.

As long as the AD has suckers to pay full price, why should he budge?

Definitely OP should pay full price, that AD has to earn a living!

'In standard use nonplussed means ‘surprised and confused’, as in she was nonplussed at his eagerness to help out. In North American English a new use has developed in recent years, meaning ‘unperturbed’—more or less the opposite of its traditional meaning—as in he was clearly trying to appear nonplussed. This new use probably arose on the assumption that non- was the normal negative prefix and must therefore have a negative meaning. It is not considered part of standard English.'

I learned something today :)

Leaving money out of the equation, what do people have against AD's? I get the sense people really hate on the AD's here! Maybe those are the same people still waiting for their Daytona 500's...

ADs are a joke, unless you want to pay top dollar and have a free diet a Coke. The best an AD could offer me on an 116618LB Gold Submariner was 29,100 plus state sales tax.
They are listed here in for sale section BNIB by the big trusted sellers for 25,500 all day long. Even a few thousand less for LNIB. Please convince me why I should pay 30K, when I can save 5K and receive the same watch?

The 3-4% add back on a expensive watch for using a CC is a major factor I would think.

I said leaving money out of the equation and your response was all about money?

Just joking around ... and honestly I hear you for sure. It seems people view AD's as "bad people" which I think is without merit

Not necessarily bad folks. It is a high overhead business. Most are in upscale malls, so high rent, have to pay employees and other business costs. Trusted sellers have the advantage of little overhead. Many work out of their residences or offices. I like the business model.

You're not old fashioned at all. I think you have great taste. I have a HULK and the next watch on my list is exactly what you're buying next. I love the GMT2 YG with green dial.
I bought the green date wheel from the black dial GMT2 YG for my Hulk and i can't wait to put it in.

I can't afford the GMT yet so enjoy your new watch and i would suggest buying off a trusted seller on this site and save yourself some serious cash.

At the end of the day it's your money so do as you will but none the less enjoy that bad boy GMT
