Tesla Model X...

After we test drove the new Panamera this past weekend, and I now know Im staying put for a while, my wife really wanted to go see the Tesla Model X. I have to say I was DEAD wrong about Teslas. I was blown away with the cool factor with this car. Its quick as a cat, handles well, and my wife is in LOVE with the falcon wings. My wife is not a car addict like myself, but I think im in trouble on this one. She wants it BAD!! Any owners with positive or negative experiences or those with knowledge and comments???

I had the same feeling after test driving the Model X. It's certainly a cool vehicle with lots of nice technology. I generally have mixed feelings about Consumer Reports reviews, but I was a little concerned with how poorly they rated the Model X.

I don't consider CR a reliable authority on anything automotive, and even worse on virtually everything else.

I had my car into a shop in Metairie to get clear bra protection. There was a gentleman in there that had a p90 model X. He had had it for a few months. He bought it for his high school son to drive from Hammond to school in Metairie. They were quickly racking up miles on it. The issues he said were getting parts for the car. He had a minor fender bender and the bumper and hood were damaged a little bit. He said the body shop told him it would be a couple months to get the parts and at the (NOLA area body shop for Tesla) that he brought it to there were a few cars there with minor damage that are in the same situation waiting for parts. He said they broke the plastic accelerator pedal off and they had to rig it together because they can't get the part.

My cousin is the sourcing manager at Tesla - said the model X was rushed into production and already had a few recalls. X uses inferior components compared to S, mostly due to economies of scale as they sell 2-3x the latter. She even recounted instances in which the material arrived substandard (torn carpet, lower grade leather that stains, etc), and Eli Musk still approved the installation. The company just barely became profitable as they were taking a loss for every S sold. The X is their attempt to recoup GP via novelty, but dollar for dollar the S is the better car.

I can't get on board.

I think it's just horrible to look at.

Lots of people that love them tho. I'm just not one.

X2....zero emotion, save your money and use public transportation with the best headphones one can buy. Paul is right, on full charge you have power, anything after a couple hard accelerations and you may miscalculate an overtaking situation and be faced with a potentially very dangerous situation.

The wife got her Model X in December. She loves it. I was trying to persuade her towards the Model S which I prefer but she liked how she sits higher in the X. Great for kids and older adults getting into and out of the back seats with the falcon wing doors. So far I have to say that I'm happy with the X and impressed by the technology. If you are on the fence, go and test drive one.

So many other cars out there in the range. X is just meh to me. I owned a Tesla when they first came out and it was gone in two weeks. You can only do so many launches then you are stuck with the quiet drive and worrying about where to charge on longer trips. Pain and will never buy electric again.

A friend of mine has one. The gull wing doors and big iPad like control center are cool but I will take a gas powered beast over it any day. For all its gadgets it's vanilla looks make it really underwhelming.

Interesting comments as usual- I personally would like to see her get an X6 or GLA, but she really loves the Tesla. I'm not a big fan of the price either at $100k+. She's currently in the gas guzzlin Infiniti QX-56. We have been on two test drives now, time will tell.....

I don't blame her for trying to get rid of her QX.
The Tesla is a really slick car. The autopilot is a game changer that I wish other manufacturers had already. In SoCal they are a dime a dozen, but in Louisiana it would be a cool car to have.

Tesla Model X...

There's nothing like the sound of a powerful engine.

If I want to drive a golf cart, I'll go play golf

An S class is my grail car, I LOVE the idea of electric, going green, new technology etc. I currently drive a Fusion Hybrid Platinum which is an excellent car (although I have a hankering to upgrade to the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid) and I do like it, but investigated getting either a Chevy Volt, or second hand Tesla. My only problem was: I live in a condo! No place to plug it in. My parking space has no power and my homeowners laughed when I asked about getting it installed.

Am I the only one who thinks a Model X looks like a slightly better Pontiac Aztek?

I take delivery of my S next week.

Same guy that drew the Aztek also drew the C-6 and C-7 Corvettes. I guess everyone is allowed an "oops"
