Thoughts on this 1665
Hi,
I have taken an interest in vintage Rolexes after have having the opportunity to see them in real life for the first time and look forward to finding out all there is to know about this fascinating hobby. I have always had a fondness for watches and have been on other forums for a number of years but after being mesmerized by the vintage subs I look forward to branching out my knowledge into this area. I have come across a 1665 Great White and I would be grateful for the opinion of those on this forum as to wether or not I should pursue this watch. The dealers own a reputable brick and mortar store within the UK but as I don't live nearby I would like more information before travelling to see the watch myself. Unfortunately I do not have pictures of the movement or the serial as the dealers said this was not normal practice for them. The dealer stated the watch was purchased in 1981. So here are my questions I as I realise that there are many pitfall when buying vintage! 1. I was told that the dial and hands are original. I believe that the dial is a MK1, is this correct and does it all match up for this era? 2. The lume plot markers at 10,11,1,2 appear to be fuzzy and go inwards towards the dial, why is that and should I be concerned? 3. Would the case be considered as over polished or in good condition? 4. I believe the bezel is replaced though I was told it is original. 5. The crystal looks like it is a service dome which contradicts the dealers opinion of a superdome. 6. Anything else worth mentioning that I may have missed out? |
