116710ln strangest experience ever...

Just bought a 116710ln at the Rolex boutique at Incheon Airport after the salesman tried to convince me not to buy the watch. Tax free I thought the price was realistic and didn't expect a discount at AD's any time soon. It was the first one I had seen at an AD in a while and the only steel model in Seoul across 4-5 AD's. Leaves me with a curious feeling.
His arguments:
Bad price
Next month discount 5 %
Why you buy for bad price?

My only idea is that he may have promised the watch to someone else or possibly a first quartrr bonus had already been reached and adding a sure selling to the list was pointless.

His english was limited so it wasn't an in depth conversation. Can anyone explain why he did not want to sell the watch, or has anyone had a similar experience?

I say because maybe it's a very popular watch. ADs tend to lure you to sell you least popular models.

Ha. I was initially thinking "what a bad sales guy". But then you bought it, right?

My AD said they will be phasing out the GMT in Basel 2018.. He's just trying to do you a favor.

I'm not sure how sales associates are compensated in Korea but my initial thought is he's sandbagging business since he may have already made his month and trying to push the sale into next month. It would be strange to do that since his entire customer base in transient but then again, being a desirable model, he probably knows someone else would buy it if you didn't.

yeah maybe he wanted you to buy something harder to sell. Were you looking at other models?

The sales quota incentive is what makes the most sense to me. Last time I flew through Incheon, they were happy to sell me any variety of JLC and IWC that I was looking at--and at a decent discount. I didn't buy any because I wasn't looking to spend that much money on whim, but yours is certainly an interesting story.

That said, maybe he was running a 5% discount next month and thought maybe you'd come back then if you're a frequent business traveler? Could have been a communication error.

Only model I tried. In Tokyo now and heard it is end of financial year today. Would explain something if that was the same in Seoul.

Would you mind let me know what about Rolex selection and prices at the Incheon Airport? I will be in Korea in the next 2 weeks and expect to shop around at the Incheon Airport before getting back home.
Thanks buddy.

Sorry for late reply, selection was limited (as I find it to be everywhere). No subs/SD's, this GMT, they had both explorer II's, quite a large gold collection.

Thanks for your reply. I plan to add either Sub 114060 or Exp 214270 to my collection so definitely take a look when I'll be there
