The New SD and Sky-D Lines at YOUR AD???
While I can't wear the new SD because it is too large and don't like the Sky-Dweller or any complex calendar in general I was surprised to hear just a couple days after the release that at my AD in Tysons, VA, the line was as of last Wednesday:
Red Sea-Dweller: 34 Steel Sky-Dweller (of any color): 4 Somehow thought it would be higher for the Sky-Dweller but there we go: They had the old SD in the display case. Very tempting... |

Lets face it, the SkyD is an oddball. Looking at it, the uninitiated would have to think, WTF? The mechanism for setting it took some horological advances, and takes training to learn how to do. Not likely that anyone would walk up to the watch with out background and know how to use it. I personally think that the likelihood of it ever selling in large numbers is pretty slim regardless of case materials. Does that mean I'm not taking a risk by avoiding the model? The answer is, no, I'm buying one. The question remains as to how big a hit I'll take on ownership over the coming years. I suspect it's a WISwatch more than anything else.

I think Sky Dweller is comparatively less popular because:
1. it's a bit more expensive 2. fluted bezel 3. PM model less popular than SS model 4. dress watch is less popular than sport watch in general |

Rolex sport / professional, especially dive models, will always be the most popular.

These numbers are about what I expected. The Sea-Dweller is the big draw this year. The Sky is beautiful but much more limited market. The DJ41 is also really nice but I doubt people are in any rush to get it or willing to wait in line.

The sky dweller is a big and thick watch not everyone wearing a ..example DJ can wear a skyD. And also 14k watch plus tax etc. sells in lower numbers . WIS like it because it's finally got "cheap" and more obtainable.
All SS models sell a lot more then pm models |

And what about the dial colours on the Sky Dweller? If I was going to go for a SS Sky, what do people think about the dial colours - with the white dial, or the blue dial?

I am happy with low Sky-Dweller numbers, as long as I get mine in blue. Prefer a watch not everyone has.

Went to my AD on 25th March, few days after the Baselworld announcements. I was the first person to ask about the new Sea-Dweller and so apparently I am first on the list. Not sure what the list looks like now though.

SD43 looks like a big subc so will be very popular, esp with Omega, Breitling, PAM etc owners, and this seems to be bourne out from quite a few ADs reporting now. The SkyD is more of a WIS watch and will be less popular with the masses who don't need the extra comps or the more busy dial.

Blue dial Sky D has a waitlist at most places, white or black less so. SeaDweller has a waitlist at all the places I checked but not nearly as much as the daytona C

The first night of Basel, the score was 5-3 in favor of the blue SkyDweller over the Sea Dweller at my AD. I didn't ask about the other colors

About four people for both watches at one branch of the local AD. There are two other branches so maybe 10 on each or so.

From everything I've read, the Datejust is Rolex's most popular model.

It's more than that, really feel if you buy it at msrp you'll regret it within a year.
