We bought the barrel!!!

We did it. We bought the barrel. What an incredible experience. That was absolutely one of the top ten days of my life. Just an incredible experience and everyone at Jack Daniel's went above and beyond to make it very special. They even had a special flag flying for us in honor of buying a barrel. Despite many negative comments from people, this was one Hell of a great day and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!

Your excitement is palpable... tell us more. Was it a 47gal? Did you get your names on a brass brick back at the factory? Sounds like you are celebratory proof for awhile! DM

It was such an incredible day that I can't even begin to describe it. They will let us know the final number of bottles that come out of the barrel in a few weeks. Yes, we got a brass brick with our names, a finished barrel, personalized barrel head, and a bunch of other goodies. After chatting with them a while, they made us Tennessee Squires. We get VIP treatment when we go to the distillery now. It was sooooo cool!!!

Super cool... I know some people were a little negative about you buying a barrel, but it is clear that you were buying an experience. No different than dropping $10k on a vacation. At least this way you get some jack too

Congrats Chad!! I'm a member of a few different Bourbon Barrel Groups and we taste and buy barrels then have them bottled for us and then distribute to the group, it's very much like a store pick program and can be very rewarding. I'm glad you had fun and recommend it for anyone that is interested in taking the next step in spirit collecting!!

So how does this work? Once "ready" do the barrel contents fill as many of those bottles as it can and then they are shipped, en masse, to the buyer(s)?

Pardon my ignorance but what is the difference between this and going to the store to buy 100 bottles?

Because of the three tier system and alcohol laws, you have to officially buy it from a local liquor store. It goes from the distillery to the state distributor and then to the liquor store where you pick it up. As for bottles, they told us it could range from 170 to 240. Each barrel is different. We're waiting on the final number.

Congratulations on the barrel. More importantly, can you get me into the secret Tennessee Squire room?

The flavor profile can vary between barrels based on age, where it was stored in the rick house, weather, etc. The barrels we sampled varied a good bit in flavor. It's also about the experience and I just can't explain that part of it. Kind of like how we get many questions here about why should I buy platinum when it looks like SS and the cost is so much more. You either get it or you don't. It was a top notch experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Zero hesitation.

My buddy and I are heading back up there next year to see our name on the brass brick and get more photos. Way too much travel and work planned for the rest of the year. Meet us up there and we'll get you in.

Lots a lots of variation from barrel to barrel and each one is unique, you get to decide what you like about a barrels individual qualities and put your name on it, then have it's yield delivered to you!

Are you saying that if I buy 100 bottles from 100 different stores they will all taste different?
