Custom Fit Golf Clubs.

Wow.... what an experience today!!!!

I've never had "custom fit clubs" before.....

Today I did it.

Never knew how important it is. (No pictures yet... won't be ready for a week).

Sooooo I just got the following:

2017 Taylormade:
M2 Driver
M2 3W HL
Hybrid

Irons: 5,6,7,8,9

Wedges
M2 PW
SW Milled Grind
LW Milled Grind

For free they are:

1) Changing EVERY shaft to the "heavy" version

2) changing EVERY shaft to the EXTRA STIFF.

3) + 1/2 inch

4) 3 degree upright adjustment





These clubs felt 1000000% better than my prior TaylorMade R7s.

Computer technology is amazing. All my shots were recorded and analyzed.

I had no clue for a 7 iron with regular shaft, I was swinging almost 30 mph too fast.

With stiff shaft I was swinging about 10-15 too fast.

Extra stiff shaft I was right on the money lol. Being 6'2", and loving to lift weights, I never thought golf swing would be too much.

It was also great to learn the length of the clubs I was using was off....

The best part was, I picked up a few demos of the MORE expensive clubs. After using the computer etc, they even recommended the TaylorMade M2s, because my numbers were much better. NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I'll still suck, but at least I'll suck in comfort!!!! Ha ha.

I found that the best way to improve at golf was to quit it.

Man was that game frustrating but I wish you nothing but the best with your new clubs.

I don't miss that game at all.

Properly fit clubs make a huge difference. I'm a Ping iron guy myself.

now don't get too mad when you have that round or rounds where you can't hit shit with those custom clubs. :) It will happen. I got fitted for Callaway APEX CF 16s. Great clubs for me. Hit em straight and make birdies. Cheers, Tim

Maybelline, it's definitely one of the hobbies I love to hate. Honestly, I'm not sure why so many people play such a horrible game. Ha ha ha ha.

The fitting experience was fascinating. The amount of things the computer told me was astonishing. Swinging a 7 iron around the 120mph range, until a heavier shaft was added. Fascinating.

Back in college I needed a few credits to graduate, but had taken all of my "needed classes." So somehow I got to take, Intermediate Golf..... how cool is that!? 3 days a week I was able to play 18 holes. Best class ever. Some guys were only able to play 3 holes, but I made sure I had no classes after so I could do nothing but play.

Anyway, hopefully these clubs give me the added fun factor I've been hoping for.

Like I said, I'm sure I will still suck horribly.... but hopefully when I do, I will at least feel comfortable doing so. Ha.

Custom fit is the way to go .
How far do you hit that 7 iron ? You sure have a fast swing

Getting fitted for the first time is always a treat. I have been fit 2 times in my life and both times the conclusion is that I can play everything right off the shelf and it fits me best. The only thing I need to add is extra stiff shafts and midsize grips.

Maybe I should do the same. I'm 6'2" as well and have always felt that my clubs were too short. Congrats on the set, very exciting to get new clubs!

Once we got the right shaft etc on it I was hitting the 7 iron about 180-184 lol. So in theory it was like a 4.5 iron. I was also only about 3-4 yards off center line.

On my best day my 7 would go about 150 yards. So I think you've got a good future in this game.

I didn't mean to come across so negatively about the game. I did have good times with it but that was totally dependent on whom I was playing with and how much beer we had.

The things I disliked the most were the dress codes and the outrageous time it would take to play 18 holes. For me boating took the place of golf and is a better fit for my life but I still try to go out golfing once or twice a year. I will never get rid of my pings nor my callaway drivers.

I am a big advocate for a good club fitting with a certified professional fitter and a good machine--as in a trackman. Many fittings use machines that give inaccurate numbers.
Even beginners should get fitted. However, with beginners their swings change quickly as they improve and more fittings will be in order.

FYI, Dustin Johnson's swing speed with a driver is 122 mph, the average tour players swing speed with driver is 112 mph. Average tour player swing speed with a 7 iron is 90 mph with a carry of 172 yards. These are all measured on a trackman which is thought to be the best tool available.

Good lord my man, you swing an iron about as fast as anyone I have ever heard of. If you can get your "smash" factor up with your swing speed you will hit the ball incredibly long.

I have been a single digit handicap for a long time. I swing a 6 iron 106 MPH with a 198 yard average carry. I only swing a driver 108 with a 272 yard carry. Similar to what you described, I swing heavier clubs faster than lighter clubs in general. I have always hit irons proportionately longer than woods. I also play X stiff shafts and all my clubs are D6 swing weight. I worked really hard for 2 years to change from playing a draw to playing a fade and as a result needed to spec new clubs last fall. I spent 6 hours on a trackman hitting balls. I also ended up in Taylor Made M2 woods with Project X DZ shafts. This new set up I am still getting the distances down, but overall playing the best and most consistent golf of my life. Hope to get down to ZERO sometime this year. I play and practice alot. About the only thing I like more than watches and cars is GOLF!!!

Its just like eyeglasses. You can grab a pair of glasses off the rack at the counter of the drugstore, or you can go see an ophthalmologist for lenses that are fit to your eyes. Night and day difference between the two.

Plus, with ill-fitting clubs, you have to make compensations in your swing. Why start behind the eight ball with something that will corrupt your swing?

I think you're better off playing with a four club set (driver, iron, wedge, putter) that fit than playing with a full set that doesn't.

I used to say the exact same thing about ththe number of holes. After 15 holes I've usually had enough.

and I knew even if i spent 5k on custom fitted clubs I would still suck....

Congrats on the new sticks! Getting fit makes a huge difference. I got fit last Fall at Spargo Golf in RI. I love my new irons but there is a learning curve to get the yardage dialed in. You're custom Scotty is sweet! Have a good season!
