Datejust II / Explorer II thoughts?

Hello Everyone,

I'm getting ready to buy my very first rolex and I narrowed it down to 2 watches. I took my buddy with me to a AD to try on a datejust II and explorer ii. I have a large wrist and will require 1 extra link. He thought the datejust ii looked to small for me but the explorer ii fit just right. Can anyone with a datejust ii with a large wrist post some photos?

Both good choices. A little more flash with the DJII, a lot more sport and a bit more worry with the bezel of the Explorer II.

Close your eyes, imagine them both on the nightstand....which do you reach for in the morning? That's the one....

I own a Polar Explorer II and have owned several DJ II's. The Explorer II wears larger to me by far even though the case is just 1 mm larger. Both winner though. Depending on the rest of your collection I would go with the Explorer II.

I recently was in a similar conundrum and went with the DJ2.

I would still like to add an Explorer 2 to the collection, I think they're great, but the DJ2 has been discontinued and they're disappearing fast, so I acquired a DJ2 now before they're gone. Explorer 2 will still be available at a later date.

If you wear more suits, or dress shirts, probably go with the DJ. I love my Explorer II, but I'm a Jeep and t-shirt kind of guy. Been wearing my BLNR to meetings and with suits, but find I've been itching for a new DJ41. If it were me, probably go with both, but the Explorer definitely gets more wrist time.

I own the Datejust but would love an explorer. I'm more of a t-shirt kind of guy myself and I would say that the explorer would get more wrist time.

both are great choices. for a larger wrist, the exp ii sits very well.

Two very different watches. If looking for more of a dress watch, DJII. If more of a sport watch ExpII. I have a 7 5/8" wrist and the DJII is the perfect size for me. Beautiful watch

Did you require a extra link for the fit?

No extra link. Used all when I originally bought it. Since then I have lost some weight and had one link removed. It you want me to PM you some current pictures to judge the fit just let me know.

Sir , Check out the numbers on the digital screen of the measuring calipers

[ All Image credits : KenR @ TRF ]

Now review the dimensions on the Explorer II Ref 216570 using the same digital calipers gauge

Bezel edge to bezel edge : 41.5 mm
Case diameter incl crown : 45 .0 mm
Lugs to Lugs length : 48.7 mm
Thickness incl caseback & crystal : 12.4 mm

...and as meganfox17's photos show, the new DJ41 version is actually over 1mm smaller than the DJII, so if you want bigger the II is the way to go in the DJ line
