Can I have the second hand switched AD...

I bought a SD4k a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering if I can take it to an authorized dealer/service center a d have them put a Red YM Second hand on it or would it void the warranty?
I know if anyone else opens up the watch and works on it the warranty will be void, but wasn't sure if I had and authorized place do it would it still void the warranty.
One one other question. I read the post on here with pictures of a SD4k that came with a Sub C bezel insert when they first came out. I love the look of it. I was wondering if I changed mine over to the Sub bezel insert if that would void the warranty. Wasn't sure because it is not on the inside of the watch. I don't really know anything about the warranty, so I figured I would ask the experts. Thanks for any insight you can give...

Rolex will only change things that are for that reference watch.

At a US AD.....probably not. They'll fight you tooth and nail about changing the watch from stock / original form, and will site that Rolex USA won't sell them the part you need unless you can show the purchase of the actual piece this came from as needed for a replacement.

Here's an example. I purchased one of the original Sub LV Anniversary Models back in 2003. I wanted the green bezel swapped with the normal Sub's standard black bezel (several forumer's have done this over the years). My AD had a Rolex certified watchmaker with a parts account with Rolex. The problem was that he needed to dig up my warranty info / watch serial number on a Sub I'd purchased from him several years prior in order to actually get the replacement bezel from Rolex USA. We ended up doing this, and I was able to get the bezel I wanted. It was a bit of an ordeal, and perhaps Rolex USA is more lenient today with their policy, but I know for a fact that they're pretty much sticklers for keeping pieces as stock / delivered.

You might be able to find a good watchmaker that can get you what you need, OEM or Aftermarket, but Rolex won't service your watch after that without changing said part back to original form (and charging you to do so).

Good luck!

Short answer, no.

If you can find the hand in The For Sale section, you could probably find an independent who would install it. But that would/should put an end to the warranty.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually was all ready able to get an brand new original Red YM Second had. I do have a watchmaker that can put ot on for me, but I knew if he did it that my warranty would be void.
So I guess I must decide if changing the had is worth losing the warranty. Originally this wasn't an issue because I was going to buy used or grey market and it wouldn't have a warranty . But since I bought it from an AD I am not sure what to do. If I am going to loose the warranty, I might as well just send it off for the red tect overprint of the Sea-Dweller on the dial...

I was in a similar situation with my YM and a red date wheel. After careful consideration, I decided the warranty was more important.

Just hang on to the hand. When you get close to the end of the warranty, if you still have the watch, go for it.

fella you keep both second hands and when you need to send it in to rolex you have your watchmaker open it up and switch it back.

then when you get it back from rolex have him re-open it and switch it back.

seems sort of annoying huh? solve that by having an independent watch maker do the overhaul for you.

ps, what warranty are you speaking of lol. for what? because you dropped it or somehow it is magically out of COSC?

I was thinking that even though it has a warranty, how often do these things break. If I break it and it is my fault, they probably will tell me beat feet. If there is a flaw in the manufacturer of it, I would think it would break pretty quickly. I would never send my watch to Rolex for a service once it was out of warranty anyway, to much $$$. So I probably will just send it off for the red text overprint and be happy with my new watch 😁 and I will probably put a sub bezel on it. Might even have the sub bezel redone matte black because I think it will match the dial better anyway. If I am going to loose the warranty anyway I might as well go all out!

Just hold onto the hand until the watch needs servicing. Then have an indie service it with the new hand.

I had an AD watchmaker swap a 116520 dial for me. They didn't have a problem with it since the dial was authentic.

I didn't need warranty work but if I did I was going to have them swap it back before sending it in.

I say go for it.

Someone received one recently on TZ.

I bought what was guaranteed to me to be a UK AD supplied (with box and papers and some plastics still attached) "Mint" 2016 Sea Dweller........ Anyway, I was quite annoyed when an Italian supplied & papers watch arrived fitted with a completely wrong ceramic bezel (from a Submariner not a Sea Dweller). To be fair, they are being courteous and acknowledge their errors and are dealing with the problem, but at time of writing the issue is not resolved. I hope to report a happy outcome soon.

In 30 years wearing a Rolex, I have never once used the warranty.
If you want to change the hand you can source a genuine one fairly easily and find a good watchsmith and do the switch.

I'm in the same boat... thinking of getting the "red" GMT hand fitted to my BLNR...the "blue" GMT hand just isn't that legible... oh well ... we'll see...

cheers
