Sky Dweller musings
Does anybody know if the SS Sky Dweller has the same crown locking system that always keeps the crown upright as on the PM models?

This video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHD6ZMN1zP4 Shows one without a lined up crown. Is it fully screwed down? I don't know. I always thought that the crown lined up because they were careful when installing the crown and tube. Is there actually something that causes the crown to line up? |

I'm curious to know too.
The PM ones have 14 patents, whereas the SS ones have 11 patents. Not sure if all of the extra 3 patents are related to precious metal processing, or if the crown locking patent is included in there, |

I don't know the details but when you screw in the crown on the Sky Dweller in comes to a sudden stop in the correct position.
I'm sure I've read a post showing a list of the parts that achieve this. First few times it does feel a bit weird compared to the Sub and Explorer crown that sort of tighten up when screwed in.

I also noticed in a bunch of Baselworld pictures and videos the crown was not lined up. I never thought about the demo without a movement.
But I'm guessing it's a more expensive mechanism and given the surprisingly low price of this watch, I wouldn't be surprised if they left it off. |

It's a VERY thick watch. You probably have to have shirts re-made.

On the SkyD it should ALWAYS line up straight. There is a patent just for this model.
The ones at Basel dont have the movement installed so it wont line up. When the real deal hits the shops it should. |

BUT as the locking mechanism is part of the crown and case, not having a movement shouldn't make any difference.

But the ones at Basel are just display peices. They probably didnt put effort into making that complication built into the case. Just prob screw down normally hence the misalignment.
I wouldnt see why they would remove this feature that is specific to the SkyD. If they did to somewhat differentiate the SS to the PM we will have to wait and see then. I doubt it |

Looks like I may need some reading glasses if I want to keep and eye on the crown.

I thought same thing too, I think regardless of the material crown should be in upright position to make adjustments
